March 24, 2016RICHMOND has used the AFL’s new dynamic ticket system to raise prices for Thursday night’s season-opening blockbuster against Carlton.
The Tigers moved on Sunday to increase prices by $2 in every reserved seat category.
Tickets now range from a top price of $72 for a seat on the wing or behind the goal on level two, to $42 for seats on level 4.
General admission tickets — set at $25 — remain quarantined from the AFL’s new ticket system.
The Herald Sun last month revealed the league’s revolutionary move to allow clubs to increase or reduce the price of tickets in the lead-up to games.
Clubs can increase prices by $1-3 at a time a maximum of four times, meaning any rise will be capped at $12.
Richmond spokesman Simon Matthews said the club was confident of attracting a crowd of more than 75,000 for the traditional clash with the Blues at the MCG tonight.
“Like some other clubs, we will trial some small increases in the lead up to some games,” Matthews said.
“It is important to remember the vast majority of price movement this season will involve dropping prices to help fill the ground and improve fan experience.”
Before this week’s price rise, Richmond had already set the Round 1 clash as its most expensive game this season — with prices in all categories starting at $5 more than for its matches against Hawthorn, Collingwood, Geelong and other Victorian clubs at the MCG.
An AFL spokesman said the league was satisfied it had put adequate safeguards in place to regulate the new system, and that there was no shortage of general admission tickets available for tonight’s game.
