Tiges and FNF ratings
« on: January 07, 2006, 06:40:39 AM »
I saw this on BF listing last year's Friday Night Football ratings.

We scored a top 20 rating for our one and only  >:( FNF game last year against the Dees (about the only good thing to come out of that match  :( ). Out of the 12 FNF games b/w two Vic clubs, our game was one of only three that made the top 20. Pretty good effort as the Dees don't have a huge supporter base.

The Pies had 6 FNF matches  ::) but only two of them reached the top 20 while similarly the Bombers only had one of their four FNF games in the top 20. So much for the argument that they rate no matter how they are going on-field.

OzTam weekly ratings reports list the Top 20 rating programs nationally each week. Friday Night Football makes the Top 20 regularly. Accross the country you need roughly 1.3 million viewers for a show to make the Top 20. Some weeks were Non-Ratings weeks (i.e. no numbers available) and some weeks FNF didnt make it (so no figures again)

Round 1 - Bris v Saints - Non Ratings Period (NR) (Was actually a thursday night anyway)
Round 2 - Carl v Ess - NR
Round 3 - Melbourne v Geelong - Not in Top 20 (NI)
Round 4 - Collingwood v Kangas - 1,449,000 viewers (nationally) - came 10th
Round 5 - Port v Geelong - 1,672,000 viewers - came 8th
Round 6 - Carlton v Hawks - 1,395,000 - came 17th
Round 7 - Melbourne v Adelaide - 1,349,000 - came 18th
Round 8 - Carlton v Geelong - NI
Round 9 - Saints v Adelaide - 1,385,000 - came 19th
Round 10 - Melb v Richmond - 1,359,000 - came 17th
Round 11 - Collingwood v Geelong - NI
Round 12 - West Coast v Essendon - 1,513,000 - came 9th
Round 13 - Port v Hawks - 1,365,000 - came 19th
Round 13 (split) - Essendon v Saints - NI
Round 14 - Collingwood v Port - 1,561,000 - came 10th
Round 15 - Kangas v West Coast - 1,366,000 - came 19th

look at how the AFL/VFL treated Fitzroy all those years, crap drafting, crap scheduling, crap crap crap and you wonder how on earth did Fitzroy ever last as long as it did.

No team is immune to the "Spread the Game" mentality of the AFL.

Anyways with Channel 7 and Ten at the helm at least we'll see less Collingwood games on the box ;)
