Giants have more finals wins than Tigers and Bombers this decadeBy Sporting News
Sep. 11, 2016The Giants' historic finals win against the Swans on Saturday afternoon has drawn them level with a couple of struggling clubs in terms of September records.
The Giants have won a total of one final, which is the same amount as Richmond have won in 20 years, and the same as the Bombers have won in 12.
It’s a fairly embarrassing record for the two Melbourne clubs, given they are both self-proclaimed “powerhouses” of the AFL.
The last time the Dons claimed a finals victory was back in 2004 against the Demons (which says how long ago it was), while the Tigers last tasted success in a final back in 2001 against the Blues.
Before that, their most recent finals win was back in 1995.
The Giants knocked off the Swans in impressive fashion at ANZ Stadium to the tune of 36 points, booking themselves a weekend off and a Preliminary Final at Spotless Stadium.
They will play the winner of the Hawks and the Bulldogs in two weeks time, while the Swans will be forced to host a Semi Final at the SCG next weekend.
As for the Tigers and Bombers, well it’s almost pre-season time for them.
