Riewoldt, Prestia step up training

Herald Sun
10 January 2017

JACK Riewoldt has resumed full training earlier than expected following post-season finger and ankle surgery.

The star forward rejoined the main training group before Christmas but took part in a separate time-trial with some Richmond teammates at Punt Rd today.

In another boost for the Tigers, recruit Dion Prestia stepped up his workload with light skills work.

Prestia underwent mid-season knee surgery last year said last month he was on track to play in Richmond’s first pre-season game against Adelaide on February 24.

“He’s been going well for a couple of weeks now,” Tigers physical performance manager Peter Burge told the club’s website.

Defender Steven Morris also ran laps as he continues his recovery from an ACL injury.

“He’s ahead of schedule, if anything we’ve got to keep the reins on him a little bit,” Burge said.

“He’s doing a lot of running and conditioning. He’s not going to progress to skills for a couple of weeks or so yet.”

Most of Richmond’s squad completed a 3km time-trial around Princes Park with Dan Butler, Nathan Drummond, Oleg Mark and Connor Menadue some of the youngsters to impress.

“The pleasing thing is a lot of the young guys are doing a lot of work in the gym at the moment trying to get their bodies stronger, and they’re actually running better as well as a result of it,” Burge said.

“Overall we’re really pleased with how they’ve come back and looking forward to the weeks ahead as out football program starts to increase.:

Peter Burge's medical update: Prestia, Riewoldt ...

------------------

Richmond recruit Dion Prestia has turned in an impressive display on the track as the Tigers resumed training on Monday.

The former Gold Coast midfielder performed strongly during a six-minute running drill.

Prestia underwent knee surgery in July last year before joining the Tigers during the 2016 NAB AFL Trade Period.

Defender Steven Morris is also progressing nicely in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained in June last year.

Richmond's physical performance manager Peter Burge said both players were making steady progress from their respective injuries.

"Dion started some light skill work today with the group," Burge told Richmond's website.

"He's been going for a couple weeks now.

"Morro, with his long-term ACL, he's ahead of schedule.

"If anything, we need to keep the reins on him.

"He's doing a lot of running and conditioning.

"He's not going to progress into skills probably for a couple weeks or so yet, but both those guys were pretty impressive."

Tigers key forward Jack Riewoldt rejoined the main group before the Christmas break after having finger and ankle surgery in the off-season.

"Jack has been in full training for three or four weeks," Burge said.

Wowee, Prestia's knocked out a fantastic 6 minute drill, sounds like our time on performance in the last quarter of the port final
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

I'd like to see you do his 6 minute drill with half the amount of distance he covered :shh
