Leadership role won't change Tiger JackBen Guthrie

March 3, 2017 JACK Riewoldt won't need to alter the way he conducts himself on or off-field if, as expected, he is elected into Richmond's leadership group in 2017, teammate Shaun Grigg says.
The Tigers are yet to formally announce the leadership group to support skipper Trent Cotchin, but it has been widely tipped Riewoldt will be included after missing out in the past three seasons.
Grigg said the departures of Brett Deledio (Greater Western Sydney) and Troy Chaplin (retired) would allow others, including Riewoldt, to fill the leadership breach.
"I don't think he's changed too much. He's been in the leadership group before and he's been out," Grigg said on Friday.
"He still leads, and whether he's in or out of the leadership group he's still going to be the same person."
Grigg said there was no update on when the leadership group would be announced.
"We'll go through the process. The players will have input, the club will have input and you guys (the media) will know in due course," he said.
The Tigers will welcome back star defender Alex Rance, after overcoming hamstring tendinitis, for Sunday's JLT Community Series clash with Port Adelaide in Mount Gambier.
"We're rapt to have him back. He was probably getting a bit too annoying in rehab barking orders from the sidelines," Grigg said.
Star recruit Dion Prestia has been rested for the clash with the Power, but former Cat Josh Caddy will back up again after impressing in the Tigers' 19-point win over Adelaide last start.
The recruitment of Prestia from Gold Coast and Caddy from Geelong adds extra depth to Richmond's midfield, which may allow star onballer Dustin Martin to push forward more in 2017.
"That's the beauty of our midfield, we're pretty flexible," Grigg said.
"I'll just help out in a number of roles again."
Grigg, 28, signed a one-year contract to remain at Richmond until the end of the season.
The consistent midfielder topped the Tigers' possession count with 24 against the Crows and is hoping to build off his promising start.
"I haven't missed too much in the pre-season so I've been pretty lucky with that," he said.
"We'll just see how we go again and that (the contract) will look after itself."

Butler and Castagna, two of Richmond’s lower-profile, young players, had a significant impact up forward in the Tigers’ opening JLT Community Series match, with their pace, energy, creativity and goal sense.
“It’s been awesome seeing them improve through the pre-season . . . and last couple of years improve. And, to see them put it on the park last week, was impressive,” Grigg said.
“Hopefully those boys can stand up and keep playing well.”
Grigg outlined the approach Richmond would be taking into Sunday’s clash with the Power.
“It’s another opportunity for us to practise what we’ve been doing in the off-season . . . see what we can do again,” he said.
“This is what the JLT series is for . . . just play the stuff we’ve been working on.
“So, we’ll just do that again . . .”
