Then take a look at the Western Bulldogs list- they basically have all kids in their twos side. If their middle to older age guys aren't in their best 22, they just don't keep them. Maybe Tom Campbell is the exception.

I think we tend to look for insurance by keeping our older guys rather than back the recruiters in to pick kids to come in if need be and contribute from an early age.

Imo it's a numbers game, get as many kids in as possible and keep turning them over if you dont see anything you can work with long term.

We simply hold onto guys like Batchelor, Morris, Maric too long. Or draft other clubs discards in the hope they come good.

We have too many guys that even at their best, aren't in our best 22.

You can add Drummond to that list of probably gone at the end of the year.

Richmond VFL coach, Craig McRae's summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players from Saturday’s Round 4 VFL match against Footscray.

AFL LISTED PLAYERS

Connor Menadue

24 disposals, 10 marks, two clearances.

Came back from AFL and played above the level. He showed that he’s spreading hard from the contest and being used on the outside. He’s ready for AFL football if the opportunity presents.

Ben Lennon

23 disposals, six marks, two tackles, three goals.

Played as a mid-forward. It was a game where he had some really strong moments for us.

Shai Bolton

21 disposals, five marks, three tackles, two goals.

Played his best game for the club so far. Played well as a forward getting up the ground. Had a great output for a small forward.

Sam Lloyd

20 disposals, two marks, 11 tackles, two goals.

Played mostly forward and midfield at times. Kicked goals for us in crucial stages, and his tackle count is a testament to his work on the inside.

Steven Morris

19 disposals, three clearances, three tackles, two marks.

Came back from AFL duties and played off half-back. He was really well organised behind the ball, set us up well, and provided a strong contest as we expected.

Jake Batchelor

15 disposals, six marks, three tackles, five spoils.

Played across half-back. Very hard to play on at the moment and ready for AFL opportunity if it presents.

Callum Moore

12 disposals, five marks, one clearance, one goal.

Played as a key forward. Showed plenty of hard running, and proved to have real scope as an AFL forward. Kicked a critical goal late in the game.

Mabior Chol

11 disposals, 10 hitouts, one clearance, two tackles.

Played in the ruck. Played little to no time in the forward line this week, which is good for his development.

Taylor Hunt

Nine disposals, three marks, one spoil, two inside 50s.

Played a half, as he was a carry-over player for AFL duties. Really missed him in the second half.

Tyson Stengle

Seven disposals, three tackles, three goals.

Had good opposition in Shane Biggs, and finished the game with three goals, showing he’s hard to keep down for the whole game.

Ryan Garthwaite

Five disposals, three marks, four tackles, two spoils.

Unfortunately didn’t have his best game, having played on some AFL forwards such as Jake red path and Stewart Crameri.

VFL LISTED PLAYERS

Jacob Ballard

24 disposals, three marks, four clearances, one tackle.

Jacob had another solid game for us. His contest has been really strong, and he put in some enormous courageous acts. Led from the front with his disposal count.

Sam Darley

24 disposals, 21 kicks, six marks, five inside 50s.

Another strong game. His rebound 50s show that he’s playing his role for us and playing to his strengths.

Brandon Wood

17 disposals, three clearances, one mark, one tackle.

Played to his strengths with his clearance work. He’s using the ball really well for us at the moment.

Jake Aarts

15 disposals, nine contested possessions four marks, four tackles.

Played as a small forward and sometimes as a midfielder. Played his role well, and is another player who keeps turning up, putting pressure on and leading from the front.

Daniel Coffield

15 disposals, four marks, two tackles, two spoils.

Has become a very solid player for us down back. His intercepts marks are a real feature, and he’s certainly playing above the level. Played his role extremely well.

Ryan Bathie

14 disposals, five marks, two clearances, four goals.

Played his first game of the season, coming in as a ruck/forward. It was terrific to see him play to his strengths, kicking four goals and performing well in the ruck. A great performance from Bath.

Anthony Scott

14 disposals, two marks, one clearance, one tackle.

Also came in for his first game this year. Played on the wing, and it look’s like he’s capable of playing at the level. Needs to show his strengths a little bit more, but still had a good disposal count.

Max O’Sullivan

13 disposals, one mark, two clearances, two goals.

Played his second game for the year, and kicked two smart goals. He’s a very clever player, and looks more and more settled at the level every time he plays.

Thomas Silvestro

12 disposals, five clearances, two tackles, one mark.

Played as an inside midfielder and on the wing. Pleasing to see him get good clearance numbers on the day. A tough competitor and a key role player for us.

Hugh Beasley

10 disposals, one marks, four tackles, four spoils.

Played as a key defender. Very hard to play on, and is a key post in our backline.

James Fletcher

Eight disposals, one mark, one clearance, four tackles.

Came back into the side after being out since round one. Played wing and midfield. Showed lots of hard running, but was a little quieter in terms of displaying his strengths. At the moment, he’s a valuable contributor with his role.

Tyson Kruse

Five disposals, five tackles, two spoils, two inside 50s.

Was performing his role well, until unfortunately injuring his quad.

Wonder what those duties are

More than likely we wouldn't have lost last week if the B-man was in the side

Would like to see Ballard upgraded to the senior list at seasons end. I reckon he has the goods.

Played with my bro as a jr and was absolutely class is a good standard of jr competition.

we would have to draft him, he is only on our VFL list,
BTW I have been saying we should rookie him for 12 months now, missed all 2016 pre season due to some "issues" but is a beast now he is fit

Daniel Coffield ( no 78) is another I would at least rookie

As I've always said, once you've had Batch, you'll never look back

Was saying that about Ballard all last year....would be an upgrade on Townsend at the absolute very least....
