Richmond reportedly made an approach to Nick Riewoldt about playing on in 2018

MYSTERY surrounds suggestions Richmond made an informal approach to Nick Riewoldt about playing on at the Tigers next season.

On Sunday, former Tiger Nathan Brown said Richmond asked whether Riewoldt would be keen to join his cousin, Jack, at Punt Rd next season.

Brown said on Triple M the offer was “turned down”.

Richmond is still looking to secure a second key forward prong in the exchange period to bolster its big man options.

A smiling Nick Riewoldt did not deny an approach was made, but said he was content to finish up his glittering 335-game career.

The six-time club best-and-fairest and five-time All-Australian is widely considered one of St Kilda’s greatest players.

“It would want to be pretty compelling, wouldn’t it?” Riewoldt said of the opportunity to swap clubs.

“I’m pretty happy sitting here right now as a retired player.”

Brown said the Tigers were interested in Riewoldt.

“Don’t be surprised if there was a phone call made from Richmond inquiring about Nick Riewoldt next year, which might have been turned down,” Brown said.

Riewoldt is expected to move into a media role and spend more time with his wife’s family in Texas next year.
