On the AFL site today they have Collo saying the Blues don't want to go down the CBF path - Link - but sheesh they financially up the creek .

As a result the Blues - who were considered the financially strongest club in the competition in the 1980's and who only a decade ago had around $4 million in cash reserves - now have debts of around $7 million.

And the club is being crippled by interest payments of $500,000 a year just to service its debts.

If North Melbourne were smart theyd start merger discussions with Carlton now. North are stuffed for mine...they have no future but Carlton have a huge support base, eventually theyll get out of there problems- it may take a while but everyone knows the AFL wont let Carlton go out the back door...North should get in now for a merger because this is when Carlton are most vulnerable and this is the time that will get them the most things in a merger. I can see the Carlton-Nth Kangaroos coming along in that scenario with a big white kangaroo where the CGC logo is on the carlton jumper.

IMO North supporters would have too many bitter memories of Carlton under Elliot wanting to chew them up and spit them out to accept a merger with the Blues. There'd be more sympathy towards Carlton if it wasn't for their arrogance under his reign as president. Plus it's not in our (RFC) interests for Melbourne teams to merge to become a superteam. That's why we didn't support Fitzroy merging with North. Better for us if they relocate to a different city/market. The Blues could become the Carrara Football Club and still keep their CFC monogram

Andy D should remind himself that Kardinia Park could be used in a 3rd ground in an emergency instead of doing a 180 degree backflip wasting $$$ on taking out a 35 year lease at Princes Park   . It's also great too see if a Club gets into financial troubles through its own greed and continually trying to cheat the system then all it needs to do is change admins when it gets caught and everything is not only ok according to Andy D but you get $$$ handshake to go with it  . Wasn't Collo at Carlton midway through Elliot's reign?
