I won't change the way I play: Rance

By Mark Koelmeyer

Richmond star Alex Rance has made a firm stance on the staging allegations against him, adamant that he won’t change the way he plays.

Rance has received a wave of backlash for his ‘staging’ antics in recent weeks, but repelled the idea of altering his playing style when asked on SEN’s KB and the Doc.

“No. It’s just the way I play," he said.

“I can’t change the way I play. I’ve gotta play off instinct.

“I don’t adapt to any new rules that come in. I can’t afford to, I’m not that talented that I can change my game on a whim.

“I’m not like Dusty (Dustin Martin) or Danger (Patrick Dangerfield) or Chris Judd or Kouta (Anthony Koutoufides) where they can be a generational player. I need to stick to what makes me a good player and then deal with the consequences as it goes.”

Rance was fined $1000 for staging during a contest with Essendon’s Shaun McKernan, after the Tigers' ‘Dreamtime at the G’ win over the Dons.

He received some criticism for another incident with Port Adelaide's Charlie Dixon in last week’s loss against the Power, but was not fined or sanctioned.
