Is this stat the key to beating Richmond?

Former Richmond coach Danny Frawley believes one statistic in particular holds the key to beating his old side.

The Tigers currently sit on top of the ladder with 12 wins and the best percentage in the competition.

However, they’ve suffered four losses this year and what they all have in common – aside from being interstate – is Richmond either losing or being matched in uncontested possessions.

Adelaide, Port Adelaide and West Coast in particular beat the Tigers quite comprehensively in that statistic and Frawley believes it’s vital to stopping them.

“The stat sheet suggests that when Richmond wins, they are plus four in uncontested possessions,” he told the AFL Nation pregame show.

“Their four losses, they’re minus 47 in uncontested possessions.

“Keep the ball off Richmond. That’s what GWS did last weekend.

“That’s a huge discrepancy and it’s easier said than done, but that is standing out big time.”

The Saints beat the Tigers in uncontested ball 286-201 last year when they defeated them by 67 points in Round 16.

And we shoud be prepared for the Pies to do the exact thing next Saturday. Its a high precision game plan but I am positive Bucks will use that as his plan A.

Its now up to Hardwick and co. to anticipate this although GWS did it about as well as they could and we still should have won that game. Our issue at the moment is just scoring goals, we create the chances so against the pies if we dont convert i think we will be punished.

All in all if both teams bring their best i will be an absorbing contest.

The article doesn't mention maybe we have a plan B to counter it etc.You really think Dimma and his coaching group wouldn't have anything planned or players instructed what to do.Power loss we were crap and like gws in the game if we kicked straight.Eagles game second half we were out of the game, but first half especially the second quarter eagles were very lucky we didn't captalise.

So if I understand this correctly, the idea is to keep the ball off us to beat us.

Well that sounds like a novel approach to things. Who'd have thought that teams can't win games of footy if they can't get the ball.
