Is this stat the key to beating Richmond?By SEN
20 July 2018Former Richmond coach Danny Frawley believes one statistic in particular holds the key to beating his old side.
The Tigers currently sit on top of the ladder with 12 wins and the best percentage in the competition.
However, they’ve suffered four losses this year and what they all have in common – aside from being interstate – is Richmond either losing or being matched in uncontested possessions.
Adelaide, Port Adelaide and West Coast in particular beat the Tigers quite comprehensively in that statistic and Frawley believes it’s vital to stopping them.
“The stat sheet suggests that when Richmond wins, they are plus four in uncontested possessions,” he told the AFL Nation pregame show.
“Their four losses, they’re minus 47 in uncontested possessions.
“Keep the ball off Richmond. That’s what GWS did last weekend.
“That’s a huge discrepancy and it’s easier said than done, but that is standing out big time.”
The Saints beat the Tigers in uncontested ball 286-201 last year when they defeated them by 67 points in Round 16.
