AFL pay

So this article says teh AVG pay is 370k and yet the women are getting something like 20k. Does that seem fair? Also why do we pay memberships if the TV deals is 2.5 billion? This is a not for profit aport, not a corporation.

What does the mens league generate in income vs the women's? Women's will have to earn their wages by producing quality football, just like the men did. Same feeling with tennis too...

Equal pay would  be a quick way to kill of the AFLW and take down at least half a dozen AFL clubs with it... :shh

No it doesn’t seem fair

Seems like the woman are being over paid

1- they aren’t professional
2- far shorter season
3- they cost money (as opposed to making money)

If they weren’t being carried by the men financially the league wouldn’t exist

In saying that , the product will improve and in time they will be rewarded adequately

I think it’s called investing for a future return.
Uber loses money hand over fist and yet the billionaires keeping stumping up...

Country footballers get $ 50 per match (unless you are a gun) and most of those footballers are far better than any of the female players in the AFLW is that fair?

Well those blokes should identify as women and play in the women’s league then.

Cmon damo the 2s cost money too and a fair few of them aren't fully pro either. My point is the disproportionate amount going to the men. Big pay rises yet the women can't get a decent cheque. I realise they ain't going to earn the same or nearly the same but you can't train and live on 20k and there clearly is buckets of cash out there. The same situation used to happen for rookies during Terry Wallace's the they were earning 30k or so. They the players union got involved. They ought to get involved here too. 70k avg seems decent as it's the avg wage or there abouts. Why be mean why be so greedy?

It’s nothing about being mean or greedy

It’s about receiving a pay relative to the return you bring in and not an out of kilter pay due to the political correctness of society/AFL

In this case, I wouldn’t confuse political correctness with a long term investment that will grow the game - far more than putting pretend teams in Qld or NSW where no one gives a stuff about AFL

You are spot on TDY. There is bucket loads of cash out there. And they are investing bucketloads into woman’s football. BUCKETLOADS. You are focussing on wages , focus on the big picture. Junior footy, local footy etc ... woman’s footy will take off and be big ..

But it’s not there yet.

As for wanting 70k salaries. You realise they are part timers and play an extremely shortened season.

The minimum wage for an AFL player in their second year as a professional full time athlete is 100k. And you want woman earning 70k for a season that’s literally a third as long. They don’t train as much , they don’t play as long , yet pay them 70k.

Doesn’t seem very fair to me.

And that’s ignoring the fact they are a financial drain.
