VFL and development coach, Craig McRae provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in last Sunday’s Round 5 win over Williamstown at Downer Oval.
Patrick Naish23 disposals, five clearances, eight inside-50s & one goal
“Played predominantly through the wing and continued his great form. He ended up with 23 disposals, but the pleasing part of it is his 10 contested possessions and he’s just playing great footy. He’s setting us up with inside-50s and clearances.”
Derek Eggmolesse-Smith21 disposals, seven rebound-50s, four inside-50s & three tackles
“Arguably the best game he’s played for the club. His contest work was really strong, he was winning his one-on-ones and neutralising and tackling well and then using the ball particularly well off half-back. He looked really dangerous.”
Fraser Turner18 disposals, five clearances, three inside-50s & two rebound-50s
“Continues to play to his strengths and playing his role really well on the wing. His five clearances was something he hasn’t done in recent weeks and it was pleasing to see him get his hands on (the ball) in and around the contest. He’s playing some good footy.”
Riley Collier-Dawkins18 disposals, seven clearances & three tackles
“Improves every week. His defence is really standing out. Big-bodied, seven clearances led the team, and played a really important role in our defensive structure.”
Maverick Weller15 disposals, four marks & three inside-50s
“Managed to get himself up for this game after being injured last week. It was a good performance. He only played three quarters, but his three quarters were full of effort and merit. He’s certainly an important player to us.”
Ben Miller14 disposals, four marks, four spoils & three inside-50s
“Played his best game for the season. His eight contested possessions was a feature, and his aerial work really stood-out. Rebounding for us, he’s big and strong and we love seeing him play that way. It was a terrific performance from him. It was good to have him back in form.”
Dan Butler14 disposals, three goals, two clearances & four inside-50s
“Played mainly forward. We put him into the midfield late in the third quarter and into the last, and he really gave us a spark around the clearances. He got some speed into the game, and showed his customary pressure, with nine of his 14 possessions were contested. He ended the game with three goals, which was also good as well.”
Ivan Soldo13 disposals, 33 hit-outs, five clearances, three tackles & three inside-50s
“Helped double-team big Nick Meese from the opposition. He really looked to dominate him in certain parts of the game. He got the ball going our way and played really disciplined footy. I really like the footy he’s playing for us at the moment.”
Callum Coleman-Jones13 disposals, five marks, nine hit-outs & two clearances
“Shared the ruck and forward duties with (Ivan) Soldo. He was another who influenced, particularly in the third quarter, both of those guys (Coleman-Jones and Soldo) had the most possessions on the ground.”
Jacob Townsend13 disposals, five tackles & four clearances
“A tough inside mid who is really competing hard for us. He’s leading from the front and is really invested in the group and we love having him in our team.”
Ryan Garthwaite11 disposals, eight spoils, four marks & six rebound-50s
“Defended extremely well, was hard to play on and had six rebound-50s. Is playing AFL footy at VFL level, and his eight spoils led the team.”
Jake Aarts11 disposals, three goals, three marks & two tackles
“Another who’s playing AFL footy at VFL level. He finished again with three goals, he’s kicked a lot of goals at this level and I’m sure he’ll be knocking down the door for an AFL opportunity.”
Callum MooreSix disposals, four marks & three inside-50s
“Played a really solid game for us. He got up the ground and started to really impact the game for us before hurting his ankle in the last quarter. Fingers crossed he’ll be okay.”
Mabior CholFive disposals, two goals & three marks
“Low possession numbers but high work-rate and high effort. Kicked two goals and looked really dangerous aerially bringing the ball to the front in tricky conditions. It was fitting in his 50th Richmond VFL game that he was a valuable contributor for us.”
