The coach also took a swipe at the score review after another apparent blunder in Essendon’s win against GWS.

While saying he “thought it was a good idea at the time” Hardwick called for consultation with all clubs to decide if the AFL should “fully invest” in video technology or abandon the review altogether. He said restricting reviews to goal-line calls would be another option.

They were using some sort of 'snicko' during last night's game. You would've thought they would trial things at a lower level rather than an arbitrary AFL game midway through round 15.

So 'snicko' will pick up the defender getting a finger on the ball 50 metres away ... right?
Yep, thought so ....      :help    :banghead

The goal review system is absolutely ridiculous and a massive over reach by the AFL.

If they insist on keeping it, focus it on goal line & post only and keep the touched adjudications to the field umpires.

‘Just scrap it’: Richmond star Jack Riewoldt slams score review

Michael Randall,
Herald Sun
3 July 2019

Richmond star Jack Riewoldt has called on the AFL to scrap its score review system and go back to the drawing board.

The system has come under fire after a number of dubious decisions throughout the weekend.

Riewoldt says the AFL must “start afresh.”

“Just scrap it, get rid of it,” Riewoldt said on AFL360.

“We did the (Geelong v Adelaide) game on player takeover on Friday night and I think it’s got to the point now this year, we just need to get rid of it, we need to get it right and start afresh.

“Have a bunker, invest some money into the actual system so we can actually get it right.

“Whether that’s ‘you know what, we’re just going to look at the goal line’ … ‘we’re not going to look at the ones 50m out or look at the touched (off the boot)’.

“Shelve it, do a summer on it and get it right — Heaven help if it happens on grand final day.”

The AFL used it’s Edge technology — similar to cricket’s ‘snicko’ — to decide two goals in Friday night’s clash between Geelong and Adelaide.

But it too has come under fire, after Patrick Dangerfield crashed into the opposite goalpost, just as the ball passed through from Tim Kelly’s kick. Some believe it was the big Cat who caused the edge to spike, rather than the ball. Goal umpire David Rodan signalled the maximum, but it was reversed on review.

Riewoldt praised Rodan’s call.

“I love that David Rodan made a decision and he didn’t go ‘Oh, nah, I need it confirmed’,” Riewoldt said.

“He went ‘no, I’m a metre away from here, I’m the best person to make this decision’.”
