Ellis (free agent -> Gold Coast or Essendon): gain compo pick in return (late 1st round/early 2nd).

Butler (trade -> Carlton): gain pick 39.

None of the others out of contract would have trade value. At best a late pick (4th rounder) for Menadue. Effectively delist Menadue and rookies Townsend, Moore, Weller & Aarts..

Keep Eggy and Miller.

That would leave us with 5 picks in the top 40 of the draft: 18, 19, 36, 37, 39.

I'm guessing we'll use a late pick on Maurice Junior as a F/S. I haven't heard any others clubs willing to use an early pick to bid for him (?).

Thats a good draft haul.

A bonus if we can bundle some of those picks and push up higher in the draft to clubs who need more the draft points than draft position for their Academy players.

AFL Trade Radio gets underway on Monday, bringing with it three weeks of rampant speculation and hype.

Gerard Whateley and Sam McClure have laid out the landscape for all 18 teams heading into the trade period.

Richmond

Sam McClure: “Who replaces Brandon Ellis?”

Whateley: “Trade high. Trade the fringe players high. There’s cache in premiership players 16-22. Trade high. You get way more.”
