I thought he was excellent. He is rarely beaten by opponents. Takes on the opposition gorillas too. Dependable. What I like most is he plays within his abilities as he rarely tries to do too much and thus makes very few mistakes. Another  solid mark down back. All up a 9 as I couldn’t really fault him only losing a mark because he probably doesn’t give much run out of the backline, although again, that probably isn’t his job.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

I thought he struggled for a bit once Rance went down but adjusted well and finished strong.

^This. Whole defence struggled but I thought Dave did the most. But as you said regrouped and was a machine in the back half of the war and finals!

Astbury is up there with with our most under rated players. We look at output,
stats wise,  but what can’t  be measured is how good our more highly rated defenders play because he is locking down a key forward. For that reason, i gave him an 8.

Also agree 100%.

Astbury is a B grade player most days of the week. I reckon he felt the heat when Tross went down but managed to relax and keep doing his role once he realised Grimes was the one to take the biggest step forward and fill those shoes instead of him.

8/10 from me. 3-4 years ago I was ready to delist him and felt it cruel they'd given him no. 12 instead of retire it. Humble pie for me and glad for it.

I gave him an 8. Between him and grimes vlastuin which I would say were our most important defenders this year he took that little bit longer to regroup compared to the other 2 but that is only the small blemish he had in his year. Once settled he was super dependable as always and made amends for that flu game he had last year
