Which Tiger player is the least we can afford to lose?

Every AFL team has a Jenga piece. Remove these players and premiership hopes could be dashed

Fox Sports
December 12, 2019

In a game of Jenga one rogue move could spell disaster.

The same could be said in the game of AFL footy.

Some players, like some Jenga pieces, are more influential than others.

They may not be the best or most celebrated player in the team, but remove them from the pack and everything else could disintegrate.

Foxfooty.com.au has evaluated your team’s Jenga piece, the player you simply cannot afford to lose.

RICHMOND

We thought it was Alex Rance, but then the Tigers went and won a premiership without him. Previously it could’ve been Jack Riewoldt, but now the club has his heir apparent in Tom Lynch. Clearly Dustin Martin is a superstar, but in his absence there’s still Trent Cotchin, Dion Prestia and Shane Edwards. Even big Ivan Soldo showed he was more than capable when recognised ruckman Toby Nankervis went down with injury. Is this the Jenga stack that simply never topples?

I'd say we can't afford to lose lynch. We've shown we can win without everyone else, but after lyncy and Jack our key forward depth looks a bit worse for wear

It's the obvious answer: Dusty. Not so much missing the odd H/A game but in finals. We've only really struggled in those finals where Dusty was hampered by injury. He played on one leg against the Pies in that Prelim and he was unable to change direction in the first half of the Geelong Prelim after coping a corky. When his leg mobility improved after half-time he won some crucial 50/50 contests which set up goals during our comeback.

I second the dusty motion. Proves to be a critical player that helps us win finals also. I would say lynch is close second

Clearly Dusty, our biggest X Factor and big stage player.

Both of our bookends have enough depth to cover the loss of ONE key player (Jack/Lynch forward, Rance/Grimes/Astbury in defence). Plenty of mids around and some depth players who could have a good crack. Heck even the ruck is deep enough between Soldo, Nank, Chol, Balta and CCJ!

But Dusty when it matters is the key, that's for sure.

Think we’d miss Edwards big time if he was injured for a significant period of time, especially in finals.

Sure would, but I feel like we'd be OK if Cotch, Dusty, Prestia, Graham etc are all fit and firing + Pickett/Stack have similar talent/potential IMO.

Dusty is just a superstar...but that's all too obvious.

I think we always struggle to cover Kane Lambert. That guy is real glue holding the place together.

Jordan Lewis says Grimesy.

“After losing Alex Rance, they just can’t afford to lose Dylan Grimes. He is a seriously good player and a player they base their defence around.”
