Who is the best player of the 2007 draft?

By SEN
10 September 2020

Who is the best player to come out of the 2007 draft?

Matthew Kreuzer, the No.1 pick in that draft, announced his AFL retirement on Thursday after playing 189 games for Carlton.

Kreuzer, Trent Cotchin (pick 2), Patrick Dangerfield (pick 10), Cyril Rioli (pick 12), Harry Taylor (pick 17) and Alex Rance (pick 18) were all part of the 2007 draft class.

Speaking on SEN’s Dwayne’s World, Terry Wallace says Cotchin’s Richmond record speaks for itself.

Wallace was at the helm as coach when the Tigers selected the Northern Knights product with the second pick overall.

“Obviously I’m going to be a little bit on the Cotchin side of things here,” Wallace said.

“When you look at his body of work – a Brownlow Medal, I think he’s won three Jack Dyer Medals and two-time premiership captain, it’s hard to go past his record.

“If you’re going just the natural footballer, you’re probably going Dangerfield.

"But when people in 30 years’ time have a look at the records of the two, I think they're going to pick Cotchin.”

Into his 13th year at Punt Road, Cotchin has played 245 games and has captained the club for seven seasons.

Yeah Rance and Cotchin just can't compete with Dangerfield....they only choked in one prelim... :shh

Danger has been an out and out superstar

It’s like some of the imbeciles on this forum that pot Fyfe , who along with Dusty is just the best of the best .. don’t have to be in yellow and black to be a champion of the game

Danger has been a champion of the modern era .. it’s not a pot shot of Cotch or Rance .. They would be second and third IMO

At their peak and on playing ability and handling pressure,

Rance, Danger, Cotchin.

Sorry if I rate stars who stand up the biggest games of all over stars who dominate home and away games and accumuate Brownlow votes but go missing or drop their bundle when it's all on the line...that could well change in month or so but until then... :shh

...and Rance was the defender of a generation...Dangerflog is not the midfielder of his... :shh :shh

You are VERY harsh on Dangers finals history

2015 he was Adelaide’s best in the finals series
2016 he was Geelong’s best in the finals series, and was best on ground for Geelong in the prelim when they got beat .. 39 possies and a bunch of inside 50s and clearances
2017 he was good as well , including in the game we hammered them
2018 he was average in the game they lost , 25 possies
2019 he was enormous in their first final and played well in the game we beat them

LMAO

Conveniently forget the 2012 prelim v Hawthorn where he pretty much cost Adelaide the game at the death? :shh

2015 - were they prelims ? Did they win?  :shh
2016 - nowhere to be seen in the prelim when it counted as Sydney blew out to 44-0 lead :shh
2017 - Really? Think you need to watch the QF & PF again... :shh
2018 - Well hot dog he stood up in an EF against Melbourne(chortle)...and still lost.. :shh
2019...yeah great front running & flopping about in the first half...virtually MIA in the second half as the match slipped away.... :shh

But yeah other than that I guess he dragged them over the line to premiership glory...or at least grand final appearance.....oh wait... :shh :shh :shh :shh

Danger was poor in both the 2017 and 2019 prelims against us. Can’t remember everything else.

I wouldn’t trade cotch for danger in a million years given his leadership, he is as much as anyone responsible for our success. But if I had to rank them on ability I’d go:

Rance
Danger
Cotch

If it was on leadership and cultural influence alone it would be Cotchin then daylight followed by Rance for how he influenced our back 6 then the length of the Flemington straight then dangerfield
