Richmond Signed Jumpers
« on: May 09, 2006, 05:46:00 PM »
I love Richmond Jumpers as a kid growing up- every year for my birthday all I wanted was a new jumper but jumpers these days are not fashion items, rather they are collectable memorabilia. Im not a collector, but there I was 15 minutes ago looking at the Tigers den shop online looking at the Richmond jumper contemplating a purchase, trying to work out if i could get one signed, then framed then put on my lounge wall. The jumper costs $100.00 to buy. So I have come up with a simple idea for Tigers management. Usually I try to come up with some good ones and I think this is one of those.

As a Richmond supporter I want to purchase a jumper but I want a signed one with only 1 signature. Maybe a Deledio or a Tambling or whoever. I would be happy to pay say $200 to buy the jumper...but to be honest I really dont wanna have to go around and ask a player for a signature and look like an idiot. So I suggest the club gets the most popular 6 or 7 blokes at the club to sign about 5 jumpers say in say the size that works best in a decent sized frame.  I am sure that the club could sell all these jumpers to people like me and when they sell out the club just gets the players to do another 5 jumpers etc etc.

From a financial point of view...$100 for the jumper + $10 say for postage and handling...the club makes an extra $90 on a jumper. I dont want it framed, as I would do that. Anyway this is just an idea to sell some more merchandising. Who reckons it could fly as an I idea? Would any of you guys buy a signed jumper- maybe they can include a certificate of authenticity as well. Anyway I look forward to your views.

Hi Ramps,

Personally I wouldn't pay that. I hate paying $100 for one as it is! But then I've got no shame about asking players to sign jumpers!

I've never actually done it for myself, but two years ago I got West, Darcy and Johnson to sign a mates jumper for his 40th at the Bulldogs family day, I even asked them to sign it 'happy 40th glen' which shows that I wasn't trying to flog it on ebay, and I'd have to pay full credit to those boys, they were happy to do it, then last year I tried the same thing for an Essendon mate of mine at their training one night, and that came off too, I got Sheeds, Hird and Lloyd to sign his jumper for him.
If you get a couple of mates to chip in. it's a cheap pressy in the end!

The only thing is knocking over all the kids to get thru to the stars, that can be a bit of a hassle!
Experience is a good school. But the fees are high.

Having only 5 each might drive the price up past $200 if the demand outstrips the supply. You could imagine Richo, Lids, Cogs and Polo  :thumbsup would be pretty popular. You would also want the respective player's number on the guernsey which would be a slight added cost plus a certificate of authenticity.

I would be happy to pay say $200 to buy the jumper...but to be honest I really dont wanna have to go around and ask a player for a signature and look like an idiot.

Rock up to a training session at Punt Rd and stand with the little and big  ;) kiddies by the race entrance afterwards as the players walk past. They usually sign away and get their photo taken.

Im not saying only have 5 jumpers each, just rather when the 5 or 10 are sold, the players sign another lot. Its just a way of not wasting a jumper and ensuring you sell jumpers to people who want them. Any way I'll see what I will do.
