Wallace said it would be unreasonable to raise expectations about teenage midfielder Dean Polo because of his stunning debut against Essendon.

Polo, 19, was yesterday named as the round six nominee for the Rising Star award, the first player to be nominated on debut in two years, since Carlton's Andrew Walker in round five, 2004.

The midfielder picked up 28 disposals and kicked three goals, including the final one of the match, to lift his side to victory.

Wallace said Polo's performance was the best he could recall by a first-gamer, but it did not mean the teenager should be expected to reach that level again in the coming weeks.
