Club Corner - May 22
« on: May 22, 2006, 11:43:39 PM »
Paul Armstrong

* Made mention we didn't flood  ;).

* Gas, Hall and Sugar expected to be back this week. Need to get through training this week of course.

* Kel Moore, Roach, Schulz coming back via Coburg (ressies).

* Terry has a good record at Kardinia Park. 2-3 wins at the Dogs and we got close last year.

Adam Pattison

* We had to learn from the Sydney game. We learnt we needed to maintain possession and control the footy. Block more to free up teammates.

* We could tell the Crows were getting frustrated (and some of the crowd).

* Crows played more man-on-man in the second half so we went the huddle more and made sure we blocked so there was a free teammate. When the man-up was on we would go more direct.

* Tactic forces the opposition to man-up to force a contest to get the footy.

* Said it was the best game he's played this year. Form at Coburg had been good. Hasn't played two games in a row so is hoping that happens this week but doesn't know yet.

* Terry told them it was the first time we've won a game nobody thought we could win. These games give the whole team confidence. If we can pinch some of these and win the ones we're expected to then the side we'll move up the ladder.

* Patto is being groomed as a solid big forward and ruck; not the quick forwards like Hughes and Jacko.

* A group effort by the coaches. Other teams have used these tactics. It's just we used it longer.

* Sheeds has his own reasons for making these comments. We had a giggle at them.

* We had to pressure the Crows and be hard at the contests to get initially on top so there was contested footy.

* Wednesday's training was focussed on the tactics. The Crows would have had spies there so surprised they didn't expect it. Maybe the Crows thought we were practicing what we thought they would do to us.

* We felt from past games when the opposition pushed numbers back we couldn't afford to just bomb it forward. Most sides get numbers behind the ball so they can win the ball and rebound. Crows probably the best at it. We couldn't let them do that.

* We had 3 different gameplans on the weekend which was communicated via the runner. Probably the first time the players coached themselves.

* Andrew Kruse mentioned that the shoe on the other foot this week with the Cats coming off a 102 loss. Royal said yes it'll be tough especially on their hiome turf but if we come out with the same intensity early on as we did against the Crows we should do ok.

Dale Weightman

* Spoke about the Legends' game which is the curtain-raiser to the North game. A couple of spots left if anyone is interested.

Ryan O'Connor - Coburg

* Best RFC Coburg players: Chaffey was fantastic with 3 goals; Humm tireless in the midfield picking up possies as was White who was B.O.G. Up forward Stafford kicked 4 as Coburg's main forward. He could have had 7. Good attitude coming back to Coburg and was a tower of strength which lifted the others. Hughes kicked 4 as well.

* Bye this week for Coburg seniors. Coburg ressies still have a game so that's where the RFC players will be playing.
