Did Sonsie play?

This was a very disappointing result for us.

RCD, Dow, Ross, Ralphsmith, Stack all should've dominated this match and to produce this below average performance is very disappointing for our future.

You can't help but question this.

Disappointing!

Stack was stuck playing in the forward line, the ball simply didn’t get there in the second half. Morris should have thrown him in the middle when we were getting monstered.

You basically agreed with me by naming kids that you thought needed to be bagged  . You/ we are entitled to our opinion without the rudeness .

Again I am assuming this is directed at me.

Please if you want to whack me go ahead but at least confirm that the whack is directed at me; just add in a WP so it's clear  :thumbsup

I don't think I was rude. But clearly you did; fair enough

The point being we should be able to have an opinion without it being personal

Hawks streak past VFL Tigers

By Brenton Mann

Late Autumn balmy and blustery conditions at Box Hill City Oval greeted Richmond VFL as it took its show on the road for the second week in a row to battle the Box Hill Hawks.

The Tigers started strongly before the Hawks turned the tide in the third quarter, before overwhelming their visitors with an eight-goal-to-one final term to seal a come-from-behind 33-point win.

Richmond was plucky late but to no avail, the scoreboard reading 15.16 (106) to 10.13 (73) as the final siren sounded.

The dimensions of the ground and conditions at Box Hill can take some time to get used to and that was the case for the Tigers.

Richmond found its groove from midway through the first quarter after the Hawks kicked the opening goal of the game.

The Tigers had the first shot at kicking with the wind which was kickstarted by Noah Cumberland through a long-range shot that floated through.

Cumberland’s goal was on the back of midfield turnover by Jake Aarts, who picked up where he left off last week with his thirst for the contest.

The enigmatic forward kicked a team-high three goals and was threatening when the ball was in his domain.

Aarts slotted the Tigers’ following goal as he marked Ben Miller's pass, who provided electric overlap run that injected life into Richmond’s ball movement.

Jack Ross was another who built on his form from the previous week. He pushed himself from contest-to-contest, capping off a productive opening term with a stunning goal from the paint of 50.

Ross’ goal extended Richmond’s lead to 15 points, which was the same margin at quarter time.

Samson Ryan’s return was welcomed by the Yellow and Black midfield cohort, as the big man showed his proficiency in getting his hand to the ball first, feeding the hungry onballers at his feet.

Ryan’s capacity to remain engaged in the defensive aspects of his role as a ruckman also shone bright, as he pushed hard to provide an aerial presence in the back-half.

Riley Collier-Dawkins missed last week’s win over Port Melbourne but was back to at his bustling best, collecting 11 disposals in the first quarter. He showcased his ability to put his head down and push himself from contest to contest.

The dynamism of Matthew Parker got the Tigers off on the right note in the second term, after he snuck through his set-shot after being hemmed in on the boundary.

Ryan then plucked a forward-50 intercept and handed the ball to Miller, who slid around behind him and pierced the Sherrin through the teeth of the wind and nailed his first goal of the day.

Miller’s goal put the Tigers up by 17 points before the Hawks started to change the flow of the game.

Bailey Henderson is somewhat of a Mr. Fixit for Richmond. He started on the wing and then shifted forward before being deployed down back as Robbie Tarrant was rested in the second half.

Henderson marked strongly on the lead and kicked truly in the second term as the Hawks were mounting a challenge.

Box Hill answered back swiftly, before Judson Clarke streaked past a host of Hawks finding space inside 50 and slotted his lone goal of the game.

Clarke’s goal handed Richmond a 20-point buffer before the Hawks kicked the final goal of the quarter, reducing their margin to 14 points heading into the main break.

The Hawks slammed on two goals in quick succession after half-time, before Tylar Young steadied the ship for the Tigers with a classy set-shot goal from the boundary.

But Richmond couldn’t build on the momentum, as Box Hill once again kept itself within striking distance.

Some Cumberland brilliance in the shadows of three-quarter time held the Hawks at bay, before a final quarter avalanche swamped the Tigers.

It took the Hawks a mere 15 seconds to kick the first goal of the last quarter and they hit the front only minutes after.

Box Hill flexed its muscles at the contest and were unerring in front of goal, kicking 7.1 before Richmond registered a score.

Cumberland’s third goal was just about his best for the day, triggering a mini resurgence by his side.

Richmond recaptured its dash and dare, but couldn’t convert its momentum shift into meaningful pressure on the scoreboard.

HAWK 1.1 4.9 7.12 15.16 (106)

RICH 3.4 7.5 9.10 10.13 (73)

Goal Kickers:

Richmond: Cumberland (3), Aarts, Clarke, Henderson, Miller, Parker, Ross, Young

Sonsie it seems had a quit game. This will mean he now has to start all over again and string 10 good games together before they look at him again.

Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in Sunday's Round 8 match against the Box Hill Hawks.

Thomson Dow (23 disposals, 11 clearances, seven inside-50s)

"Stood out in his clearance work. He probably needs to use his feet a little bit more, but it was a solid game from him."

Ben Miller (23 disposals, six marks, seven rebound-50s, one goal)

"It was sensational to see Ben really start to demand the footy, and we saw how well he uses it. He had a great first half on the day."

Jack Ross (22 disposals, four clearances, four rebound-50s, one goal)

"I thought Jack's attack on the contest was a standout on the day. He was the one who really set the tone in this space."

Hugo Ralphsmith (22 disposals, five rebound-50s, two inside-50s)

"His run and carry was very good at times. Our back six were a bit loose on their opponents so we'll look to tighten that up this weekend."

Riley Collier-Dawkins (19 disposals, six marks, six tackles)

"Had a sensational first half, in particular his first quarter. I thought he led the way with his tackle pressure, and it was great to see him drive his legs and take the opposition on throughout the day."

William Martyn (18 disposals, five marks, four rebound-50s)

"I thought he won the footy back well for us, we'll just be looking for him to improve the defensive side of his game down back. But the day will prove to be a really good learning experience for him."

Matt Parker (18 disposals, five marks, four tackles, one goal)

"Tried his backside off. I thought he supported our defence really well on the wing and he kicked a really nice goal as well."

Samson Ryan (16 disposals, 37 hit-outs, five clearances)

"Battled really hard on the day and led the hit-outs quite convincingly. He needs to tidy up some of his free kicks through technique, but he's progressing really well as a ruckman against some tough opposition of late."

Sam Banks (15 disposals, two inside-50s, two marks)

"We love to see him take the game on. He probably didn't get quite as many opportunities on the weekend on the smaller ground but his speed does stand out."

Tyler Sonsie (14 disposals, five marks, three inside-50s)

"A really great opportunity for Tyler to learn. He was given a fair bit of attention from the opposition and it was important to see him work through that. He didn't have a huge influence on the day but we'll be looking for him to bounce back."

Judson Clarke (14 disposals, four inside-50s, three clearances)

"I thought Judson's ball use on the day really stood out. He continues to play his role well. His field kicking was brilliant and he had another solid game."

Jake Aarts (13 disposals, five marks, three inside-50s, one goal)

"He was a real focal point for us up forward, he looked really dangerous up there. He copped a heavy collision and fought through that to come back on and play his role for the team."

Noah Cumberland (13 disposals, four marks, three goals)

"Another player that was involved in a strong collision. Offensively, he was very good on the day, he can do things that many players can't. I'm really looking forward to seeing a strong improvement in the defensive side of his game, which we know he's capable of."

Sydney Stack (12 disposals, three marks, two inside-50s)

"Probably didn't have his best day, but I'd be looking for him to bounce back strongly because he's been in good form as of late."

Robbie Tarrant (10 disposals, two marks, two rebound-50s)

"He had a really different mindset in terms of his ball use and that helped our offense. He was a really solid contributor down back in the first half, but finished up at half-time in preparation for coming weeks."

Tom Brown (six disposals, two marks)

"He didn't have his best day but we have all seen what he is capable of doing and I'm really confident that he will bounce back this weekend and have a great impact for us."
