Richo having an X-ray on his wrist
« on: May 29, 2006, 01:27:13 PM »
Just reported on SEN that an email has come in saying Richo is having his wrist X-rayed. The Club is saying it's just a precaution but if there is any breakage he could miss 4-6 weeks  :(.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some ligament damage.

They should have taken him off when it first happened and checked it out as I mentioned to bg25 during the game  :help

Don't matter what some people may say - we need this guy in the side - Big loss if he does miss, then again big chance for some others to step up and show their wares.

Richmond spearhead Matthew Richardson will miss the next two weeks after cracking a bone in his wrist in Saturday's win over Geelong.

The Tigers spearhead will have screws inserted into his right wrist on Monday afternoon and the club is hopeful he will only miss matches against Fremantle and the Kangaroos.

Gun youngster Brett Deledio has a minor strain of his medial ligament and his availability for the trip to Subiaco will be assessed later this week.

The official Club release from Tony Greenberg says what is i the AFL site article above. A scan yesterday showed Richo had a cracked bone in his wrist. He'll undergo surgery this arvo to insert a screw to stabilize the fracture. The Club expects the big fella to miss just 2 weeks and be back for the Hawthorn game in Round 12.

The release also said as above that Lids is still in line to play this week against Freo  :o.

Sheesh I wish we were more conservative with our predictions. Lids is too valuable a commodity to rush back for a game we'll be underdogs in anyway ::).

Richmond loses Richo with broken wrist
Breaking News - The Age
May 29, 2006 - 4:14PM

Richmond forward Matthew Richardson has learnt he fractured his right wrist during Saturday's AFL win over Geelong at Skilled Stadium and required surgery.

Richardson, who will miss the next two games, suffered a cracked bone when he was sandwiched between two opponents early in the second quarter, and crashed into the back of the Cats' Jimmy Bartel.

The big Tiger was treated at halftime by Tigers officials, but they thought the injury was only a sprain and Richardson played the game out.

He booted a goal in the last quarter to seal the club's first win in Geelong since 1990.

On Monday, Richardson consulted a specialist over the injury and learned he would need to have a pin inserted to mend the fracture.

"It was a bit painful for him on Saturday but he pushed through it all," Tigers football operations manager Paul Armstrong said.

"There was a little bit of pain there but we treated it at halftime because we just thought it was a sprain."

Richardson will miss the next two games, but will be aided by the mid-season break as the Tigers play Hawthorn on the second weekend of the split round 12.

But Richmond is hopeful young midfielder Brett Deledio, who suffered a minor knee sprain against the Cats, might play Fremantle at Subiaco Oval on Saturday.

 :banghead :banghead

Still 2 weeks is pretty light. My son broke his wrist and was out of action for over 8 weeks.  But then he didn't have screws in his.

I still think they'll probably give Richo an extra week then the midseason break to be sure. That'd make then 4 weeks.

Lids is the one I'm worried about if they allow him play at Subi with a crook knee :help. We're not going to win the flag so him missing for 1 week at least isn't going to stuff us up.

I would not play Lids this week. Sore knee, game on a big hard surface coupled with a bloody long flight - er no thinks.

IMHO he is better off having a rest this week and being right for the Roos
