Who should come in for Richo and Lids?
« on: May 29, 2006, 03:03:31 PM »
Hartigan I'd guess will come straight back in but do we bring in Hughes as a leading tall forward or Jackson and go small up forward along with Tambling, Pettifer, Krakouer and Meyer?

given that freo are without a spec ruckman the big knob will spend more time on the ground allowing simmo to take oin more of a forward role taking up richos space  dont be supprised to see us bring staff over to put some more height on the ground and stretch the dorkers over the ground   lids replacement will be harts  or if tezza  tries a differnt tact then expect jacko in the side as a strong marking forward and more time on the ground for our running brigrade  early forcast for sat nite is fine and dry min 7 max 22 perfect nite for footy  :clapping

Browny could replace Richo (Herald-Sun)

Brown could replace Richo
30 May 2006   Herald Sun
Mark Stevens

RICHMOND is strongly considering calling up Nathan Brown as a surprise replacement for injured star Matthew Richardson.

Although the Tigers were yesterday reeling from the loss of Richardson for up to a month with a broken wrist, there is growing excitement about Brown's progress.

Coach Terry Wallace last night talked up the chances of a Brown-Richardson swap for the trip to Perth to confront Fremantle on Saturday night.

"We're not far off Browny coming back – they might even do a tag team yet this week," Wallace said last night.

"He is moving well . . . Browny's a chance."

Richardson underwent surgery to repair a cracked bone in his right wrist yesterday, with a screw inserted to stabilise the joint.

The best-case scenario is a fortnight off and a return against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium in Round 12.

The worst-case scenario for the star forward is a month out and a return against Collingwood in Round 13 after the mid-season break.

It is the first time Wallace has had to cover for Richardson in his 31 games as Richmond coach.

Brown, who returned from a broken leg in Round 1 this year, has been rested since Round 3 after enduring a frustrating night against West Coast – also at Subiaco.

He told website footyvoice.com.au yesterday that he was ready to return.

"The obstacles are the coaches and fitness staff agreeing that I am right to play," Brown said. "I reckon I am right to play."

Richardson was injured early in the clash with Geelong on Saturday.

"It was a good effort for him to stay out there and help us get a result, but unfortunately today the news wasn't great," Wallace said.

Brett Deledio suffered a minor medial ligament sprain in the win. The Tigers are hopeful he will be fit to take on the Dockers but it would not surprise if he is left at home.

"He's a class player and he's our future so we're not going to put him in any physical jeopardy," Wallace said.

Richmond's replacement is likely to be first-year player Cleve Hughes, Daniel Jackson or Greg Stafford, who were all overlooked for senior selection last week.

Richmond has not given up on Brett Deledio being available against the Dockers despite straining a medial ligament against Geelong. At worst, he will miss one or two weeks.

Should Deledio miss the game, Richmond may introduce its 36th player to senior football this season, by playing onballer Matthew White, 19.

Giant Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands will return ahead of schedule from a broken jaw to take on former Dockers team-mate and in-form Richmond big man Troy Simmonds.

Sandilands has missed three games since breaking his jaw against West Coast in round six.

Fremantle will lose key defender Scott Thornton for a month after he dislocated a shoulder against Brisbane on Sunday, but hopes to have another three players available, including Des Headland, who has missed three weeks with a fractured thumb.

Hopes are high for last weekend's late withdrawals, Luke McPharlin (ankle) and Jeff Farmer (knee), to be available against the Tigers.

You could be close to the money 632 as Armstrong last night on club corner was suggesting Staff might come back in.

I would have thought the hard surface of Subiaco like the Dome would be the last place you would bring Browny back. Hopefully we're only playing funny buggers. Browny hasn't played at all for 7 weeks  :-\.

"He's a class player and he's our future so we're not going to put him in any physical jeopardy," Wallace said.

Good to hear Terry.

I wouldn't take Lids to Subi either.

Browny got through training
Just a quick post before I write up one in the training thread.

Browny got through the whole training session including the scratch match. I was surprised to him moving so well and in the scratch match he played in the midfield. A SEN reporter tried to get a few words out of Browny at the end of training but he brushed them off by saying he was fine. IMO he shouldn't comeback on a hard ground like Subi but as far as being right to play he looked ready to go. All depends now on how he pulls up.

This looks like we have a very good problem here. Quite a few are ready to come back but the guys in the team are not going to give up their spots quickly.

It will be tough at the selection table this week. It will rpobably depend on fremantle a lot. If it looks like McPharlin and Sandilands are back then the selection could be much different.

Wouldn't be surpised with any of six names put into the team this week. (and I don't mean six chages to the team).

I like this so much. Don't think I can remember the last time I could be happy with 28+ different Richmond players in the team. Our depth for quite a while has been maybe 16 or 17 and the rest were fill ins.

Here , kitty kitty. Here , kitty kitty.   AAAUGH!

So true FT. It's nice knowing we no longer have to rely on the likes of Hudson, Houlihan, Blumfield, Morrison Weller, etc.... just to come up with a 22 each week.

The Freo site says Sandilands is 90% to play with McPharlin and Farmer to return also. With Richo out, Freo will probably push McPharlin forward to stretch us for height.  Do we play Hall or Joel on Pavlich or do we bring in Gas also?

I hope Rainesy plays on Medhurst or Farmer and gives either a bath.

In : Gaspar, Hughes, White
Out : Lids, Richo, Pattison (assuming Sandilands doesnt play)

My thoughts.

No need for 3 potential rucks

I would bring Gaspar in along with White (he has plenty of pace and Subiaco will suit him)

Depending on how other come up for the game (a few missed training) i would play either Staff or Cleve.
