Of course, we play more games at the MCG than any other club other than the co-tenants of the MCG! Really, we should be playing more games there too but we do not have double up games against the other big 4 clubs this year for some unknown reason. It sh.tes me that this is seen somehow as a distinct advantage over the rest of the competition yet every other club wants to play us to help their own coffers and the Victorian clubs want to play us where they can get the biggest crowd. Where would that be by chance.... The MCG?!.

So true. We play 23 matches next season with 12 of those being ‘home’ games. We lose 2 of those due to the marvel stadium contract and another due to the gather round. That leaves us with 10 home games at the MCG. Then we play 3 ‘away’ games at the MCG, 2 of those being against MCG tenants in Collingwood and Melbourne and the other being against Essendon who are technically a marvel side although they’re pretty much 50-50 with the MCG. So at most we are getting 1 extra game at the G but good luck telling the bombers our Dreamtime game has to be at marvel…..

The stupid thing is they think we have a "home ground advantage" when we play Pies/Hawks/Dees at the 'G when they are mutual games as we share the same "home" ground with them.

St Kilda, Essendon and Richmond have the most favourable fixtures ahead as the gap continues to widen between the AFL’s best and worst sides this year.

An analysis of club fixtures shows that the Saints, Tigers and Collingwood are yet to play games against any of the competition’s three most struggling sides — Hawthorn, West Coast and North Melbourne.

St Kilda has five games to come against the three clear wooden spoon favourites, while Richmond has four.

...

On the back of five straight losses, Richmond is one of the rival sides looking to cash in next.

The Tigers face West Coast at the MCG on Saturday, hopeful of turning their season around but conscious any game can turn into a banana peel.

“Any AFL side is dangerous,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said of the match up against the Eagles.

“Any side on their day is capable of winning and they’re probably a little bit like us. They’ve got some soldiers down, but the fact of the matter is we both need a win. We’re no different.

“We’ve got to make sure that we play our very best.”

The HeraldSun's guess at the Round 24 fixture.

SAM LANDSBERGER’S PREDICTED ROUND 24 FIXTURE

Friday, August 25
Brisbane Lions vs St Kilda, 7.50pm (G)

Saturday, August 26
North Melbourne vs Gold Coast, 1.45pm (BA)
Hawthorn vs Fremantle, 2.10pm (MCG)
Sydney vs Melbourne, 4.35pm (SCG)
Geelong vs Western Bulldogs, 7.25pm (GMHBA)
West Coast vs Adelaide, 7.40pm (OS)

Sunday, August 27
Carlton vs GWS Giants, 1.10pm (Marvel)
Essendon vs Collingwood, 3.20pm (MCG)
Port Adelaide vs Richmond, 4.40pm (AO)

(All times EST)

* Note: The AFL is not due to complete the Round 24 fixture for another three weeks, which could alter the appeal of some matches

The league’s overlay for the last round is to tell a narrative. The AFL wants to start strongly with a belter of a Friday night – which is the aim every week – but then drag the final round right out so that the last two games have relevance.

Recently it has been a big tick, with the composition of the top eight coming down to the last quarter of that last game.

Richmond might have to topple Port Adelaide away in the final round to make the finals.

For that reason a Sunday twilight clash of Lions-Saints or Power-Tigers would make more sense, as opposed to a likely dead-rubber game such as Hawthorn-Fremantle or North Melbourne-Gold Coast.

The AFL’s biggest fear is the top eight being sorted by Saturday night, leaving a day of dead Sunday football to close the season.
