Tigers' Marvel misery: Your club's best and worst venues

Check out which venues your club likes and dislikes.

RICHMOND must overcome its Marvel Stadium curse if it is to remain on track for finals, while Port Adelaide will need to achieve a 16-year first if it is to break its three-match losing streak this weekend.

Sitting just two points outside the top eight, the Tigers face back-to-back games at Marvel Stadium in the next fortnight, against the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda.

Since 2010, the Tigers statistically have a worse win percentage at the SCG (16.7) than at Marvel Stadium (43.9), but former coach Damien Hardwick was never shy in showing his dislike for the Docklands venue.

Richmond is winless from its past six games there, including a loss to Gold Coast earlier this season.

Best venue
Heritage Bank Stadium: 11-2 (84.6%)

Worst venue
SCG: 1-5 (16.7%)

Home venue
MCG: 106-5-68 (59.6%)

I’d argue Metricon has been pretty good to us  :shh

Would’ve thought our record at Kardinia park would be pretty poor in that period also.

I still think of it as the Docklands Stadium.
Yeah we're already going to vote for him mate, you don't need to keep selling it.....

Mini said he loves Marvel stadium. Enjoyed playing there when he was a player as the conditions there were always good. Jokingly blamed Dimma for our last six non-wins (5L 1D) at Marvel.

What makes Richmond a different team at Marvel Stadium? Andrew McQualter tries to explain it.

From Barrett's 'Sliding Doors' column:

IF ...
ex-coach Dimma once said of Marvel Stadium, 'I hate coming here' and 'our people don't come here' ...

THEN ...
there may lie a profound insight into retiring ex-skipper Trent Cotchin's absence from Sunday's game, against St Kilda. He and his club have decided it far better to wait for the round 23 MCG match against North to say goodbye. Tigers fans should attempt to pack the joint out.

:huh3 Cotch isn't playing because he has a calf issue plus this week's match at Marvel isn't our home game. Next weekend is our last home game for the season.

It's a grass oval with 4 posts up each end.  The venue doesn't make any difference and is just an excuse.

Tigers' Marvel misery continues

Marvel Stadium hasn't been a happy hunting ground for Richmond in recent times. Former coach Damien Hardwick infamously declared "I hate coming here" in 2021, and since then, the Tigers have failed to record a win in their eight matches at the Docklands venue, losing seven and drawing one.

The Tigers have gone eight straight games at Marvel Stadium without a win in worrying signs. In their last two matches, they’ve managed just a combined 4.2 in their opening terms, compared to 14.3 against.

“You can’t say they are jumping out of the sheds and hitting the game hard,” Fox Footy’s Nathan Buckley said. “The history hasn’t been great. As soon as you plant a negative thought in your mind and let it fester, it’s really hard to turn it around. Richmond players and the football club have allowed this to fester and haven’t nipped it in the bud. It just gets bigger and bigger and bigger. There’s no doubt there’s negative sentiment when they go there … and that takes a bit of your energy.”
