Richmond youngster Kane McAuliffe has extended his time at Richmond, putting pen to paper on a fresh deal with the Club.
McAuliffe has signed for an additional two years, tying him to the Swinburne Centre until the end of 2027.
Kane McAuliffe speaks with Richmond Media following the news he has re-signed with the Tigers.
The 19-year-old was Richmond’s first selection (No. 40 overall) at last year’s AFL Draft. After an impressive pre-season the first-year Tiger broke into the lineup for his senior debut in Gather Round.
McAuliffe has averaged 14.3 disposals from his six full games at AFL level, with the powerful 187cm midfielder also making three appearances as the substitute.
The youngster’s appearances as substitute included a vital fourth-quarter seven-disposal cameo in the Round 14 win against Adelaide.
Excitingly for Richmond fans, McAuliffe has also been dominant in his six games at VFL level this year, averaging 25 disposals and seven tackles per match.
McAuliffe said he was stoked to sign on with Richmond.
“It's great opportunity from the club and I am so grateful for it and can't wait for the next couple of years,” he added.
“It is such a great culture around the club. We are all a bunch of best mates, so you get to come in to work together each day. I could not have hoped for much better.”
The South Australian added that Jack Ross and Dion Prestia had been among the senior Tigers to have taken him under their wing.
“(They have) really shaped my game and helped me learn the game style and kind of really made me feel welcome, which has been great from them,” he said.
“As well as the coaches, Chris Newman Jack Ziebell and Sam Lonegan, they have all played a really big part in getting me to where I am today.”
Richmond General Manager, Football Talent Blair Hartley said McAuliffe had made a terrific start to his AFL career.
“Kane has not put a foot wrong since he came to the Club, impressing everyone over the pre-season and continuing his good form into the season,” Hartley said.
“He should take great confidence from what he has achieved this year, and this contract is a great reward for his efforts.
“We are thrilled to have Kane committed to Richmond long-term and are all looking forward to seeing him continue to improve his game going forward.”
