Would you agree to creating a cross-sport "super club"?

What are your guys and gals thoughts on Richmond, with a soon to be redeveloped Punt Road Oval just across the tracks from the sporting precinct, jumping in on the Demons plan and aligning itself with the Melbourne Tigers and other clubs from different sports under the Tigers moniker?

MELBOURNE Football Club has taken the first tangible step towards forming a new "Team Melbourne" super club, spanning up to five sporting codes, by forging a bold new alliance with Melbourne Phoenix netball club.

The union of the Melbourne AFL club and the Melbourne Phoenix — who are likely to be renamed the Melbourne Phoenix Demons and begin wearing the traditional red and blue of the Demons — is the first formal partnership to be signed under the move towards Team Melbourne.

Negotiations are advanced between the Melbourne Football Club and the Melbourne Tigers basketball club about a similar alliance. Talks continue with National Rugby League club Melbourne Storm and the Melbourne Victory A-League soccer club about sharing facilities and membership.

All the clubs — AFL, netball, basketball, soccer and rugby league — will have their training headquarters in the one place in the new facilities to be built in the Olympic Park precinct.

The Phoenix are believed to have been courted by both Collingwood and Essendon to form a similar alliance.

Not sure. Good on Melbourne if it works for them.  :-\
First thing I thought of was a netball team linked to Freo playing in purple overalls. ;D

When Jim Malone was general manager, I put forward in writing a proposal to the club about trying to establish a "Superclub" concept which is what Melbourne is trying to do now. I met with Jim in his office at the time which was in the house at the back of Punt Rd. That was years ago and clearly my proposal wasnt accepted. The concept of the superclub is a normal structure in Europe and I believe its inevitable that all the major AFL clubs will go down this road. I obviously support it and my only regret is we didnt start doing it first.
