DVD Surround Sound systems

I am looking around to buy a new DVD player/surround sound system at the moment.

Just curious to see if anyone else has good feedback on a system they may know of or have purchased.

I am looking for something which is going to give me some pretty decent sound and also play my "backed up DVD's"

I know some brands arent the best for the backed up versions and some seem to play anything. Keeping in mind i dont want to go and grab any old player and want something which has a bit of quality.

Comments/advise please  :thumbsup

Bull, back in the days when I worked for Douglas HiFi we had a golden rule which I believe still stands today, If you want quality, never buy systems, always buy separate components. The reason for this is that all manufacturers tend to specialise in various componentry. eg JBL, Bose for speakers, Denon, Onkyo Yamaha, Pioneer for amps/processors and take your pick on dvd players. A spending percentage breakdown for mine would be 50% on speakers, 40% on amp/ processor and the rest on a player. If you do want to go down the system path, I would stick with one of the amp/processor manufacturers I mentioned earlier. Sony do make some good budget systems but they always come across a bit tinny and underpowered. Bose also make some good complete systems.
