Club Corner - August 14
« on: August 14, 2006, 11:44:20 PM »
Started with aftergame interviews with Simmo and Paddy (audio link already posted), Matty White, Richo, Rainesy, Joel, Howat and Newman.

Matty White

* Third and best win out of eight. Goal from Wallace to shutdown Hooper and get 15 possies which he just missed out on. His goal was a inside torp lol.

* Big emphasis on getting the youngsters in the side and games into them. The injuries we've had has helped with that.

* Next week we need to do the same and just throw everything at it.

* He cops it about Sportsworld on Sunday.

Richo

* Injuries do hurt. Just look at Melbourne now. Hard to make up the loss of Cogs, Newman, Browny, ...

* Wrist is feeling better each week. You're never 100% so am fine now.

Rainesy

* Still trying to shake off the old man's tag and he thinks people are now respecting him for what he is doing now.

* RS award - not worried about. Just wants to finish off the year strongly. If it happens great but if not no worries.

* Confident he could make it but not satisfied yet and still has learning to do. Wants to have a long prosperous career at Richmond. Mentioned signing a 3-year deal.

Joel

* Pleased to get a good win after not doing so the past month.

* Injuries are a fact of footy and you're never going to have everyone available. Need to have a strong list from 1 down to 40. Gives our young guys a go and confidence to play their natural game.

* Paddy's first quarter was the best he's seen.

* We wanted to get our 4 goals a quarter and 16 goals a game. We got near that. First half intensity was very good.

* Wallace has a good grasp of where the list is that. We hope to get further development out of our young guys as well as the return from injury of others and build up to a successful club over the next few years.

Cam Howat

* Thrilled to have win (his first). Joked about having 14 kicks and no handballs in the first half.

* He wasn't 100% sure he got that goal but celebrated anyway and then Paddy got a free. All the umps were confering and he had ran off celebrating.

* Wallace wanted a bit more run from behind the ball in waves this week and getting a run on. Last week we were more kick and mark.

* Still just enjoying being out there.

Chris Newman

* Off the crutches the past week. Told pressure on the bone makes it heal faster. Hartigan gets off crutches on Tuesday.

* Leg still gets a bit stiff but hopes to not miss much of preseason. It sounded as though he said he'll be running within a few weeks (?)  but maybe he meant by the time preseason starts.

Travis Ronaldson - Coburg captain

* See-sawing game with a 5-6 goal breeze. Bendigo lead by a alot at 1/4 and 3/4 time.

* best - Rodan (midfield/forward) with 5 goals. Humm in the centre. Sylvester and King.

* Bye this week then face the top side Northern Bullants in the final round.

* Finish anywhere between 5th and 8th. VFL decides finals venues on best ground available rather than home ground.

* For finals get a few Richmond and injured Coburg players back. Coburg depend alot on how many Richmond blokes they get back.

* Qualfications - 12/10 first week then 7 games qualification after that. Mentioned Howat and White. They are confident of doing well in the finals.

* Second oldest of the Coburg guys so got the job as captain and is honoured to do so with such a young list.

Joel is a smart boy and captaincy material IMO.
Makes the most sense of the lot. :clapping
