13.Richmond: Nathan Brown: Typically KP defenders don’t go highly, if my draft comes true there will have been 3 in the first round. An impressive draft camp really boosted his stocks, and he looks an impressive player. He McKenzie, and picks 11 and 13 are interchangeable in my mind.
Nathan Brown – Ballarat (Victoria Country). 17/12/1988. 193.5, 87.2 (KPP)
Big, strong and very competitive KPP, who plays primarily in defence. Hard at the ball, and the contests. Closing speed appears good and he tested well for 20m sprint (3rd) and, repeated sprints (6th) at the DC. Pretty good in the contests and seems the ideal for a role as KP defender in today’s game, with his good speed to aid him in providing rebound. AA FB, and Vic country MVP this year.
Defenders always seem to slide, A club could bite early but I doubt it. Late first round to early second.
26.Richmond: Clinton Benjamin: Went for the KPP early, so time for more or winger type that may compliment Oakley-Nicholls who they picked up last year.
Clinton Benjamin – Claremont (Western Australia). 27/7/1988. 188cm, 80kg (Utility)
Typical athletic type player that gets drafted theses days. Tall, quick, and versatile. Benjamin has played a variety of roles in the past, including as a key defender, HBF or winder. I think he will become a hard rebounding defender, but that’s just me. Pretty quick (2.95), reasonably good skills, and the perfect size and shape for the modern day footballer.
Perhaps a risky selection for whoever takes him. There are plenty of other players who were more impressive that him this year. But he just shows enormous potential. I think he will be drafted in the 16-30 range.
58.Richmond: Jackson Sheringham: A likely Richmond type. Quick outside rake, that can use the ball well as a bonus. The Tigers were trying to off-load a couple of inside midfielders in the trade period as they feel they have a plethora of them, adding to the case for an outside type with this pick.
Jackson Sheringham – Bell Park (Victoria Country). 22/6/1988. 177cm, 73kg (Winger/Midfielder)
Quick outside classy winger who is a good user of the ball. Good long kick of the ball is a highlight of his game. Looked likely to be a much higher pick this time last year, but hasn’t really raised his game to the next level. Only slightly improving his disposals output this year, and he has kicked less goals. Should be drafted on potential, and because of his speed and skill.
Is pretty short, and always a worry for these guys. Not a ‘disappointing’ year, but I don’t think he would be altogether pleased about it.
60.Richmond: Sam Jacobs: Add a big hulking ruckman to fill the hole left by Stafford.
Sam Jacobs – Ardrossan (South Australia). 10/4/1988. 199cm, 101kg (Ruckman)
Big old fashioned ruckman, pretty good tap work, but not much good around the ground. Needs to learn to be able to drift forward or back in the run or play. Has been described as looking like a ‘dinosaur’ in the championships, and I have to say it is hard to disagree. Has already player nearly 2/3 of a season in the SANFL so could potentially be a 2nd ruckman as early as next year at a club with a shortage. Will be trimmed down a little to add mobility, and given time, as all ruckmen are. Not as much scope for improvement as other players.
Late pick up in the draft you would think.
