Melbourne nightlife

Coming to Melbourne for boxing day test. Meeting a few pommie bastard mates who have come all the way from england lol.

Anyway, i've only been to Melbourne once before and that was an overnight stay. Wondering where a few young fellas would go to have a few beers with decent music and a bit to look at in a not too pretentious environment. Don't want to end up in Melbourne's version of King's X where you need to know the doorman and some poxy imported beer costs $8 a stubbie.

Heaps of good pubs and bars in Richmond.  Everytime I go back, I head there.  (I am not exactly young though)

I'm not young either but the Pumphouse hotel in Nicholson St (opposite the Exhibition building) and the Redback brewery in North Melbourne aren't bad pubs. Bridie O'Reillys (a irish pub) in Little Collins Street near Parliament house isn't too bad either. The elephant and wheelbarrow in Fitzroy St, St Kilda does the English pub thing. If you want live music as well then stick to the inner city - Fitzroy, Richmond or St Kilda. Food wise you'll find Brunswick St cheaper than Lygon up Carlton/Fitzroy way.

Great town Melbourne. Best city in Australia by a country mile. Second time i've been there but the first time I've had the chance to have a decent look around. Wouldn't mind it if I ended up living down there.

After reading the New Year's thread I thought everyone was in bed before midnight. ;D Glad you found some nightlife, Jake. :thumbsup
