Tiger in hospital
12 December 2006   Herald-Sun
Sam Edmund

RICHMOND chief executive Steven Wright has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome -- a rare disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the nervous system.

Wright was admitted to Epworth Hospital on Saturday complaining of numbness in his feet and ankles.

He is expected to be released in time for Christmas.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome affects one person in every 100,000 and, if left unchecked, can result in paralysis and even death.

Tigers football manager Paul Armstrong said Wright had improved in recent days, and was confident his colleague would make a full recovery.

"He is looking OK and feeling a bit better now," Armstrong said.

Former Collingwood player Graham Wright contracted the disorder in 1993 and spent four weeks in hospital.

RICHMOND chief executive Steven Wright is making good progress in his rehabilitation after contracting Guillain-Barre Syndrome two weeks ago.

He is expected to spend some time out of hospital over the Christmas-New Year period before his permanent release in mid-January.

Wright will then continue his rehab as an out-patient and hopes to return to work in February.

Open letter of thanks from the CEO

Dear Members and Supporters,

I wanted to thank the many Richmond members and supporters that sent me messages of support during my recent hospitalisation with Guillain Barrre Syndrome.

I was discharged from hospital on New Year’s Eve, and can now walk and use my hands and fingers again, and generally, I’m making steady progress through my rehabilitation and physiotherapy program.

I am looking forward to returning to work at Tigerland in February on a part time basis, and, like the team, I hope to be fully fit before the first game of the NAB Cup!

Full letter is here: http://richmondfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=312273
