Rich vs North 1982 (video)
« on: January 23, 2007, 04:51:38 PM »
Just checking out Moi's myspace and saw this gem from round 22, 1982 at Arden St  :clapping.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLOBjm3Pxd8

We destroyed North in one comeback quarter in both meetings that year. That 82 side had awesome firepower when it got going. Arguably as good as 1980 if not better on their day with Rioli in the side alongside Flea, Raines and General Lee in the centre. They just stuffed up after half-time in the big one  :(. I believe in that clip that's BT at FF and Disco further up the ground Mr Bourke  :-\

Arden St wasn't a bad ground to watch footy either provided you didn't mind standing for the whole game. The Roos could only afford one old grandstand for the North members lol. When I was a kid I lived in Footscray so it only took about 5-10 mins to get there by train then walk to the ground. The only thing that I really miss from modern footy is travelling to different grounds every second weekend.

That was a fantastic walk down memory lane. Thankyou.

It's a tragedy that team didn't win the flag in '82.

Rioli, Raines, Weightman, Rowlings etc. just providing so much quality ball up front with the likes of Bartlett, Cloke and Roach there to finish it off. It has to be said though our defence wasn't the best.

The thing that strikes me most from that game were the handball skills of our onball brigade. Pure class.

Sorry the video was so crap, was the best I could get it.
As someone told me, garbage in, garbage out.
Was worth a try but.

That's true. Losing Malthouse before the GF and then Tempany IIRC during the game also weakened our defence further. The damp conditions suited Carlton more as well.

i love that old footage, maybe coz we were a great side to watch. smart, quick skilled runners everywhere...has never been the same...wed give plenty at the moment to find a group like Rowlings, Rioli, Raines, Bartlett, Wiley etc. what a great midfield group.
