Kayne Pettifer on Sport 927 (audio and summary)
« on: March 14, 2007, 10:03:25 PM »
The Tigers are yet to win a pre-season match...Prime Time Sports spoke to Kayne Pettifer to see if there are any concerns ahead of the home and away season.

Summary

* He was a bit more consistent last year. Still had a down track in the middle though. Wants to improve on that again in 2007 in the forward line next to Richo and Browny. All going good personally this preseason.

* Similar role to last year this year across HF. Would like to push up to the wing also.

* Down patch midyear - not too sure why. Perhaps getting the body right for 3-4 weeks there. Also with no Browny got the best next defender. Got shutdown and probably didn't work as hard as he needed to.

* Got fixed up by Enright in the NAB Cup. Played better on the weekend against Melbourne. Played deep forward as well as across HF. A mixed bag of positions which was good. One good game, one bad one so far - consistency issue again. Hope to get a good four quarter effort this week, then a week off in readiness for round one.

* Melbourne game - had our chances but missed them. In particular some set shots early on.

* Keen to get a win against the Pies and get into some good form. Hard game as they are in the same boat.

* Kingsley has had his op and is around 3 weeks away. Disappointing about the ankle injury as he was having a good preseason, has good knowledge up forward and was fitting well into our structure. Back around rounds 3 or 4.

* Polak - Very versatile playing back and forward. Fit and has the best hands. Great pick up.

* Wallace's match committee idea. Petts said he wasn't too sure what it's all about yet but will do what the boss says. Plough's been great, assistant coaches been great, everything has been ... (yep you guessed it) .... great lol.

* Drug issue - WADA system on gameday is very good. If you get caught 3 strikes you're out for 2 years. A very strong rule. Not sure about the preseason one but the players get tested alot and more often. Petts has been tested 3 times this summer. If players are doing drugs they won';t last long in the game. No one from RFC has been caught or is doing it. They have had very good educational classes on it.

Provided Petts can keep his head in gear and continue to improve his workrate around the ground and defensive efforts in the forward line, he is one of the least of our worries. A Tiger that does usually have good clean skills.
