MOVE over Maverick, there's a new Top Gun in town.

Young Tiger Brett Deledio yesterday earned his stripes with the RAAF in a F/A-18 Hornet flight over the south coast of Victoria.

Deledio took to the cockpit with Richmond supporter and RAAF Flight Lieutenant Syd McLoughlin as part of the Australian International Airshow.

The 2005 NAB Rising Star strapped himself in for a one-hour flight that took in Warrnambool, The Twelve Apostles and, of course, Punt Rd.

Deledio experienced the thrill of pulling 7Gs while engaged in simulated combat manoeuvre at 1000km/h.

"The takeoff was amazing, I've never been thrown back anything like it," Deledio said. "It feels like every part of your body is being sucked together.

"I was a little nervous when the pilot took a sharp left turn and pulled about 4Gs, but he was really experienced and was in control the whole time so it was a real thrill."

You know the timing of this is quite funny considering what is happening at WestCoast.

Perhaps they could call him "ICEMAN"

I feel the need, the need for speed .............

Richmond's very own Top Gun Tiger

The adrenalin was pumping for the young Tiger, turned Top Gun star, Brett Deledio, as he experienced the thrill of his life by flying in a F/A18 Hornet. The Hornet is currently on show in Victoria as part of the Australian International Airshow. An integral jet to our Defence Force and usually deployed for fighter and attack missions, Brett was lucky enough to experience, first hand, up close and very personal what its like to be a real fighter pilot.

Brett received a full mission brief outlining his flight path which included a scenic flight over the city of Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road and the 12 Apostles. However it wasn’t a totally relaxing experience, with Brett engaging in tight combat maneuvering with a second Hornet at speeds of up to 1000km an hour.
