Tucking in to a football career
By Greg Lange,  for Richmond Football Club
April 11, 2007

Shane Tuck is set to claim another record this weekend when he plays his 50th AFL game against Collingwood. The 25-year-old, who spent two seasons at Hawthorn before making his debut with Richmond in 2004, says he is excited to reach the milestone.

“Before Terry [Wallace] got to the club I didn’t know how I was going to go, so to play 50 games ... I’m pretty happy about it,” he said.

While Richmond is yet to win this season, Tuck says the team is sticking to its core values.

“One of our team mottos this year is to make sure we have a competitive effort every time we go out there and not to give in,” he said.

He has dropped off in form and pace since 2005 and we need more proactive blokes in the midfield who can win us games but Tuck did a negating role on Kirk last week so in the coaches' eyes he's probably safe.

you know how exports say ...

players start having an influence 30-50 matches in there careers ???

well tuck had about 0-10 matches before that good year in 05 ... so 20-35 matches ...

since then ???

where did he go ???

i am being honest now ...

what does tuck do that makes him a good player ??/

i got first ...

thinking back to 2005 !

it was his long kicking ... long kicking which he hasn't done since 2005 ...

his hard ball gets ... he is still hard which i am not taking away from him !

but he hasn't been first to the ball all the time !

his marking ...

and getting about 20+ posessions per match in 05 ...

less this year ...

tuck's time is now ...

in 2005 everyone (even me) ... though we have found a hard midfielder ...

but he has gone ...

i think its the richmond desease ...

once a player has a great year ... they drop off ...

2003 Mark Coughlan ....

2004 NO ONE ! LMAO ... maybe Brett Deledio !

2005 Shane Tuck ....

2006 Andrew Raines, Troy Simmonds ...

???

Simmonds hasn't had a shot ...

but Raines hasn't been himself since last year !

tuck should be an attacking midfielder ... not a tagging or whatever ...

tell him terry to get the bloody football first and kick the poo out of it when he gets it ...

I think you're making an unfair generalisation there with Lids, Rainsey and Simmo.

Lids had 2nd year blues last for sure, but his working into some good form.

Rainsey is struggling a bit a la Lids last year, but it's just a thing I reckon he will work out of (the faster he gets moved onto a wing the better).

And with Simmo you can't criticise him for a being a one year wonder, he's missed pretty much the whole preseason and can't be judged.

and 2nd was great ... so i stand corrected ! ...

It may well be his last if he doesn't improve on the first two games.
