Richmond ruckman Ray Hall suspended
May 5, 2007 - 2:09PM
The Age

Richmond has acted quickly to punish ruckman Ray Hall following an incident in a Prahran bar this week.

Sensitive to the AFL's increasing impatience with player behaviour, the Tigers have suspended Hall for three weeks and fined him $5,000, as well as ordering him to do community service.

And, they have demanded the suspension begin as soon as Hall has recovered from his current injury.

In the latest of a long list of AFL players behaving badly, Richmond has moved to show it is not prepared to tolerate incidents which threaten to tarnish the image of the game.

Club president Gary March said he was furious at the indiscretion, which led to police intervention.

"Ray was involved in a minor altercation with a patron at a bar in Prahran," March said.

"No person was injured. At this time, no charges have been laid and Ray will continue to fully cooperate with police inquiries.

"Ray is currently injured and to give added meaning to the penalty, the three week suspension from senior football will only commence when he has recovered from his injury."

During his injury rehabilitation, Ray will complete additional sessions imposed by the Club's leadership group," he said.

"Ray will also be required to undertake community work with the homeless and underprivileged."

March said the Tigers were "extremely angry and embarrassed about the incident."

"We are aware of the current issues surrounding the behaviour of some AFL footballers in the eyes of the public and the responsibility of the players to be positive role models.

"Ray has let down the AFL, the club and his fellow teammates and is very apologetic for his actions.

"This conduct is completely out of character for Ray and it is the only blemish of his 99 game, nine-year career at Richmond."

Razor was still listed as 3 weeks away. Add another 3 weeks and he won't be back until the second half of the year. Would say given March's reaction that means bye bye Razor at the end of the year with just 99 games after 9 years in the system.

I dont know if Ray would understand this but he just paid for Kane Johnsons fine lol...

Ch 10 showed a grab from Gary March today.

Razor was out with Staff. They went out to the movies and dinner before heading to a bar in Prahan to play some pool. March said it was a minor altercation but the Club wouldn't tolerate players putting themselves in such a position. Ch 9 claimed Razor allegedly hit someone in the altercation.

Hall in hot water over pool dispute

RICHMOND has reacted quickly to Ray Hall's early morning altercation during a pool game in a Prahran bar, fining him $5000 and suspending him for three matches, to be served after his return from injury.

The 26-year-old Tiger defender is on leave from the club because of a long-term hip injury.

The club believes the incident, which occurred about 2am on Friday, was a dispute over the "two shots" rule. Police are investigating.

Richmond president Gary March said in a statement the Tigers were "extremely angry and embarrassed".

"We are aware of the current issues surrounding the behaviour of some AFL footballers in the eyes of the public and the responsibility of the players to be positive role models. Ray has let down the AFL, the club and his fellow teammates and is very apologetic for his actions."

He said Hall would be assigned extra community work and made to complete additional rehabilitation sessions, as imposed by the club's leadership group.

Tigers football director Greg Miller said Hall been given a short break from training because he had become a little flat.

"It's a hip flexor injury that he's had all year," Miller said. "We found he'd become a bit stale with the training, so we gave him a bit of time off and now this has happened.

"The police are still looking at the footage and I don't know if it's going to go anywhere, but they'll make up their mind. It's very out of character for Ray, but our point is that he shouldn't have been there at that time and put himself in that position."

Police probe Hall stoush
06 May 2007   Sunday Herald Sun
Kelvin Healey

RICHMOND'S Ray Hall will be interviewed by police today over a fight that caused him to be suspended and fined by the Tigers yesterday.

Hall, 26, was believed to be drinking at Chapel St bar Revolver when he had a fight over a game of pool at 1.30am on Friday.

It is the latest in a string of embarrassing off-field incidents for the AFL, coming hours before West Coast's Ben Cousins apologised for using drugs and days after Fremantle's Jeff Farmer punched a nightclub bouncer.

The Tigers' utility, sidelined after minor surgery, was one of four people ejected from the bar.

Richmond officials acted swiftly to discipline Hall, suspending him for three weeks – to start when he recovers from injury – fining him $5000 and ordering him to do community service.

"The club is extremely angry and embarrassed about the incident," Richmond president Gary March said.

"Ray has let down the AFL, the club and his teammates and is very apologetic."

Mr March said Hall had been out with former Tigers teammate Greg Stafford when the fight broke out.

"They had been to the movies and after seeing the movie had gone out to play a few games of pool," he said.

Mr March said no one had been injured in the fight and Hall would co-operate with police.

He expected Hall to be interviewed by police today.

Mr March described the incident as minor, but said the club suspended Hall because fines had failed to work in the past.

I'd guess alcohol fuelled this alleged incident if it was just over a rule in pools  :whistle.

Also another thing that has nothing to do with Razor but reminds me of a pool rule we were trying to figure out at work where we have a pool table lol. The other day we didn't know for sure what happens if you pot the black off the break. Some thought you won the game while others thought it was 2 shots to the other person. Does anyone here know?

"9. 8-BALL POCKETED ON THE BREAK. If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, the breaker may ask for a re-rack or have the 8-ball spotted and continue shooting. If the breaker scratches while pocketing the 8-ball on the break, the incoming player has the option of a re-rack or having the 8-ball spotted and begin shooting with ball in hand behind the headstring. "

But it very much a matter of house rules.

gee theres some rubbish in this day and age
$5000 fine l got less $2000 for a full on assault in a pub that left a guy injured severly ( not proud but he started it )
3 game suspension for going out with your mate in your private life was he drunk ???? are the tigers going overboard with this l think  YES so what about Greg Miller at a function so peeed he could hardly walk he didnot know what door to go out of when leaving should he lose his job no wonder players do it they are taught well
Razor has to do community services so he gets 3 punishments for a little fight thats unjustice is the sacrifice of playing league football really worth it ???
l mean l would prefer to play country footy & have a life ( My Opinion Only ) not being followed by the media
well razor l hope for that unjust punishment you got a few good ones in cause they were exspensive  :thumbsup
the AFL is killing football with this greed
