Brown wants a cameo
04 June 2007   Herald-Sun
Daryl Timms

NATHAN Brown will spend more time lobbying this week than a federal politician.

Those in power at Punt Rd have already received calls from Brown, asking that they vote for him at the selection table this week.

Despite Brown's push for a Richmond recall, he won't have the numbers when the Tigers pick their side for Sunday's game against Fremantle at Subiaco Oval.

Brown made a successful return when he played about 50 minutes for the Coburg Tigers reserves against the Northern Bullants on Saturday.

He came through unscathed in his first game since he withdrew from Richmond's Round 1 clash against Carlton because of a hot spot in the leg he snapped in 2005.

Brown believes he is right, perhaps for a cameo role against the Dockers, but he will line up with Coburg against Sandringham next Monday.

If all goes to plan, he would be recalled to the Richmond side for the Round 12 split-round clash against Melbourne on June 22 at the MCG.

Richmond coach Terry Wallace said last night Brown had pulled up extremely well from his first outing since last season.

Wearing the No. 82 guernsey, Brown kicked 2.1 from his nine possessions and three marks.

Wallace said the plan was for Brown to play about 70 minutes at VFL level this week and then possibly play again with Coburg the following week against Frankston.

"That will give him three games of footy and he will have only missed one more with us," Wallace said.

After Richmond's draw against the Brisbane Lions at Telstra Dome on Saturday night, Wallace said it was important to get Brown back in the side, but only when he was ready and risk-free.

"We have to make sure we get him right for our future," he said.

What is the difference between having a cameo at Coburg or having one for Richmond?

A four hour flight and a schitload of expectation. :thumbsup
My parents bought me a Richmond jumper and enrolled me in a junior footy clinic in 1981...look at me now.

I would have thought Browny would be pressing for a game at Coburg and would need a run for Richmond to see if he was ready.

Yeah, I wouldnt like to see him fly that far for half a game.  Make him wait and get a few games under his belt in the VFL.

Think he will be struggling to get a go at Freo.

Thing is, the next match is after the break (no pun intended), against Melbourne in a night match at the G. If anything brings back the memories and tests him mentally it will be that match.

Maybe leave him at Coburg until the St Kilda game.

That's a very good point.  The similarities would be scary even to watch.  :-\

But it might even be good to run out there and come back to where it all went wrong.
