Boom Richmond recruit Trent Cotchin will wear the No. 9 guernsey at Tigerland.
The Tigers’ No. 1 pick in last Saturday’s National Draft (and No. 2 overall) is delighted to have the opportunity to wear the No. 9, which has been retired since Wayne Campbell hung up his boots at the end of the 2005 season.
“I’ve worn No. 9 the last few years . . . I started wearing it when I went to PEGS (Penleigh Essendon Grammar) the first time,” Cotchin said.
“Before then I wore No. 3, but I don’t think I could take it from ‘Liddsy’ (Brett Deledio) here.
“I’m really happy to have it . . . I would have been happy with any number, but to be that low – and Wayne Campbell’s old number – I feel privileged.”
In further guernsey news from Punt Road, the Club’s No. 2 selection in the ’07 Draft, talented West Australian key defender Alex Rance, has been given No. 18, while 202cm ruckman-forward, Dean Putt, from the Calder Cannons, will wear No. 19.Full article
