Gary March on SEN 21/9

Here's what he had to say in a roundabout way:

Re his comments about it’s time for the playing group to deliver, felt we escaped scrutiny because of four coaches getting sacked this year, and maybe our past recruiting had come under a lot of fire, but the playing group escaped scrutiny.

Considering we won 11 games last year, to only win three this year was probably just not good enough as far as the club’s concerned, but more importantly, as far as our supporters are concerned.

Re Judd – at the moment seems we have no chance to get him because Chris has decided to talk to four clubs.  Having number one pick in the preseason draft, we’ll sit back and wait and see what happens.  A good position to be in with that pick, but at the moment it looks unlikely.  We’d be reluctant to give up pick no. 2 anyway.  We’re keen to keep our really early picks.  There’s some great talent in the draft early this year, so we’d be pretty reluctant to give it up.

If not Judd in preseason, who has Miller got in mind?  Greg’s been busy talking to a number of people for a number of months now.  We’ll be very active this year, and there’s a few uncontracted players at the moment.  We’ll just see how that pans out and whether any of them are prepared to come to us.

Re Sheedy coming back.  He caught up with him during the week and had a great chat.  Kevin’s decided with no coaching job that he’ll have a year out of football, and we talked about a role of Kevin coming back, helping us with our membership campaign and maybe helping us with the AFL and looking at getting some extra blockbuster games.  Kevin and him are going to be working on that and they’re meeting next week.  Hopefully, we’ll get him back in some capacity next year.

Our centenary campaign which will be to try and link our past to our future and thinks Kevin’s got a lot to offer for us in linking that campaign together.  A legend at the Bombers but he’s a 250+ game premiership player at our club, so he’s got a lot to offer us as well.

KB – Enormous.  Just to see the people in the room swarm to him.  Think Kevin had his photo taken with more people than any current day player, so it was fantastic for the club that he could attend.

Richo – considering he’s gone down by a vote once or twice in the past and four times runner up, he thinks it would have been a tragedy if he’d never won a Jack Dyer medal.  He’s the heart and soul of Richmond and never seen a reaction like it.  His wife said to him she’d hate to see if we ever got into a grand final what it’ll be like.

And if he evr gets to a GF I'd love to see what it would be like.  I know I'll be there.

Thanks Moi. Great reporting  :cheers  :bow  :thumbsup

Pick 2 should be off the table completely. Cotchin please Greg.

Does pick 19 count as a "really early" pick? Maybe I'm reading into something that's not there due to the Maguire rumour.

Miller would have been working on this for 12 months like he did with Polak last year. Let's just hope we get a freebie quality player in the PSD (i.e. not a Knobel) and don't pay a fortune in picks for him/them.

we talked about a role of Kevin coming back, helping us .... with the AFL and looking at getting some extra blockbuster games.
Can Sheeds convince twiddledee and twiddledum to give us 11 home games at the 'G?
