VFL takes centre stage at Dome
Amelia Harris | March 15, 2008

VICTORIAN football will take centre stage on Grand Final eve, with the VFL and TAC Cup grand finals to be held at Telstra Dome.

The TAC Cup grand final is traditionally played at the MCG on Grand Final day, while the VFL showdown is held at Princes Park.

The TAC decider will start at 4.30pm on September 26, with the VFL match to start at 7.40pm.

Ticket prices are expected to be about $20.

AFL Victoria chief executive Peter Schwab said the move to Telstra Dome was a significant step for the competitions.

"The decision was made on two levels," Schwab said yesterday.

"One, we thought it was about time we took the competitions to a higher level and a more significant venue just to see if the interest will be generated even further.

"We thought the Friday night was also a significant night because it leads into the AFL Grand Final."

Hopefully Coburg and the Cannons can make the Grand final and both win the flag at the Dome.

This can be damaging to the VFL clubs
higher pricing to run VFL will turn crowds away more & money that is taken away from the clubs canteens & bars
people like to see VFL games & finals played in the open & at the clubs assigned too
they damaged the VFA now they going to damage & VFL

l like to see the return of the AFL reserves for all clubs
This would create a larger interest in football & give the paying public its money worth for the price they pay in admission, food & drink pricing cause next they be charging us for going to pee

Apart from week 1 of the VFL finals Tmonk, no clubs get home finals in weeks 2, 3 & 4. All the finals have been played at Port Melbourne, with the Grand Final being played at Princess Park.

Problem being no one wants to go to Princess Park (who could blame 'em  ;D), hence why thier crowd numbers have dwindled. 2007 was largest crowd they've had for years.

$20 to get into the dome for the VFL grand final is around what people had to pay in 2007 - so I don't reckon the cost is going to be such a big deal. getting people interested to actually go is the key

Positive initiative IMHO, this aligns the pathways towards AFL for the kids and the mature age rookies as well as the club affiliates.

Really happy to see the VFL stand on its own 2 feet and look to build a supporter base utilising some of its strengths in its affiliation with the clubs that created AFL footy.

The TAC & VFL Grand Final should be an event that can appeal to the broadest cross section possible in the best venue possible (and that aint CarlScum Park).

The cost of admission offers value for a double header, but agree that the cost of drinks & food may put some off, but there should be opportunity to BYO food.
