Footballers that got the best out of themselves
« on: February 27, 2008, 04:53:07 PM »
Francis Leech and Schwarz on SEN were talking about players that got the best out of themselves. Schwarz mentioned Gas and Andy Goodwin lol.

What other Tigers got the best out of their (limited) abilities?

The first one that comes to mind for me would have to be Scotty Turner

For a bloke that couldn't kick wasn't a strong mark and kicked, what, 2 or 3 career goals, I think Duncan Kellaway has to win this.

Aside from the tiges, I used to see big Barry Round hobbling up and down the street where I work.
If he were at TAC cup side these days (doubtful) as an aspiring junior and went to a draft camp, can you imagine what his chart would look like? LMAO!!!
Agility?
Skill level?
Vertical leap?
100 sprints?

The bloke could barely kick 25 meters with a gale at his back.
Yes he was an awesome packbusting one grab mark, but in this modern game.......?

The irony of it all........the guy is a brownlow medallist.
Go figure!

(I may add he was a revered figure in footy circles and was quite the lad about town, demolishing crownies like thimbles in inner city pubs and bars)
Drink,Drugs and Shagging models.
The rest l just wasted.

Because they were rookies, you'd have to say Tivendale, King, Thursfield and Foley have been exceptional.

Top 10 in no particular order I'll try and cover eras I have watched

1. D Kellaway
2. B. Holland  even more so now with his retention on Melbourne's list. An old slow cumbersome lethargic dinosaur who has not yet become extinct. Maybe he has a long lost relo somewhere in Loch Ness.
3. M Rogers
4.J. Howat   chb in a preliminary final side  :lol
5. T Free till injury cut him down
6. M. Chaffey can't argue with 170 odd games
7. E. Dunne  premiership player
8. Jimmy Jess one of my all time favourite Tiger players ever! :thumbsup
9. M. Roach in a side losing its gloss in the early to mid 80's still able to have  a few seasons where he kicked between 60-80 goals.
10. P. Broderick need I say more.

Yep Magic all had to do it the hard way. Got to love the way Kingy goes about it  :thumbsup.
