On the Couch
« on: June 09, 2008, 09:18:45 PM »
Just saw a short segment on "On the Couch" where they basically said it was time for TW to bring youth into the side, they also highlighted 5 players whose futures are questionable:

Tivendale (considered gone)
Pettifer (almost gone)
Bowden (just hanging on)
Polak
Mcmahon

I think these names have been mentioned plenty of times across this forum, i think actions speak louder than words and TW has to make a statement at the selection table this week. A game that many would expect us to win it creates a catch 22 situation for TW. Does he go into the game with his "tried and trusted" i.e. the group mentioned above, or does he take in youth where inexperience could lead to a possible loss. I suppose being cynical the question is does TW attempt to save himself or alternatively contribute in some way to the future of the RFC by a "more youth" policy?

What a great opportunity to play the youngest team of the year and actually steal a win.

Would do wonders for the confidence of them as a young,"new"? team

6.5 wins is not good enough anyway and he should be sacked at the end of the year anyway. Any credibility he had coming into the place left a long time ago anyway. Winning games won't leave the club in a stronger position on field anyway we won't win finals and we'll end up in draft selection no man's land. Terry should do whatever it takes to make sure the team does not win for the rest of the year. Whether it is play the kids and give them the game time and the experience at the top level which I endorse and hope its the path he goes down or continue with his tried and true failures
giving them a prolonged goodbye to AFL or a subtle combination of both I don't know.

The dangling carrot of a priority pick should be way too enticing for the football club and an opportunity that is too good to miss. From next year W Sydney and Gold Coast will be getting their AFL sanctioned mitts on players that we will have no chance on getting so lets take up the offer of a priority pick and either pick 1 or 3 or pick 1 and 2 or pick 1 and 4 while the going is good and while we still have a chance to get some of the early talent that next years draft will provide us.

Essendon Melbourne and Freo will struggle having to get rid of ageing players and a substandard second tier of players so lets not follow their path or give them the opportunity to beat us to the punch and steal our thunder.

Mike repeating what he said in the paper this morning. There's no choice other than to play the kids and get games into them. If we win then it'll be good for their confidence; if not then the tank is on.

I can't believe the short memories.  It was only about 6 short weeks ago that we 'threw caution to the wind' and replaced the "tried and trusted" with some of our better and more forward kids (moving Richo helped too).  We turned it around in emphatic fashion and followed that up with a few very solid performances.  Then we started to lose our nerve and go back to the usual suspects until the metamorphosis was complete 2 weeks ago.  We all know the end result and now all the 'experts' are coming out and saying we need to bring in the kids.  Heeellooooo, calling all Rhodes Scholars.
