Bowden and Miller on SEN
« on: June 26, 2008, 04:07:53 AM »
Joel will be on Morning Glory this morning with Watson, Maher and Brownless.

Miller will be on KB's show.

Both promoting Saturday's game and the centenary functions and events.

If anyone would like to give a brief run down of what is said it would be much appreciated  :cheers.

Miller and Geoff Raines on SEN now since 10am

* Greg said yes he's no longer on Board. It was meant to be temporary but ended up being 4 years. Great replacement Tony Free. Great choice.

* Geoff Raines said no chance getting on the Board while Andrew is playing. Living back in Melbourne now. Miller said he's doing a lot of work helping out with funding of the redevelopment.

* Nice sunny day on Saturday. Expect 80k+. MCC members won't turn up in June. KB challenged them to get there too.

* Geoff won mark of the year in 82 but no Brock SS Commodore as the family needed a stationwagon. Reckons Roachy has him covered as far as the mark of the century.

They're now taking calls as to why Richmond supporters are so passionate.

* 1000 bookings for Friday night. 2000 bookings already for Saturday morning. Punt Rd can hold 4000. Still tickets available for both.

* Caller said Cotchin plays a lot like Geoff. Geoff is excited by Cotch's prospects. Surprised by his size for an 18 year old. Reckons he'll end as a big body midfielder (mid-high 80kg).

* Geoff said he has bad memories of 82. Clearly thought we were the best side. GF was wet and they came out firing kicking the first 3 goals. We just couldn't get across the line. Very bitter memories of that year.

* Caller said not too many clubs would be around after only 2 finals appearances in 25 years. Greg said not only that but they are optimistic about the future.

* Relative of Matty White rang up and mentioned how his grandfather Jobe White played too.

* Another caller from Swan Hill said his parents chose Richmond as his middle name. That's how passionate his family is for the Tigers.

* Geoff said when he was 2nd rover to KB when he started he had to kick goals in the FP or you would've been out of the side. He also had hair down to his bum lol and was forced to get it cut.

* Bombers supporter said we had the best theme song and we're better to watch than the Dons at the moment lol. Another Bombers fan said he was hugging Tiger fans in the pub after the Port win he got so caught up in it.

* A caller rang up and said his late grandfather saw all 10 flags. First when he was 9.

* Patto - Greg said he's a real leader. Puts in every week, massive heart - loves him. Last year had to be first ruck in the absence of Simmo.

* Controversial moment - Geoff why did you leave Tigerland? Wasn't the only one that left. Number of reasons we won't talk about now. It was disappointing to lose in 82 and Francis will probably admit he struggled to handle things as coach that year.

* Miller said we have a promising up and coming side so we won't be letting them go.

* Cousins - difficult exercise for him to come back.

He also mentioned that he's only 196cm. What exactly is Patto?

A ruckman or a forward???

Neither and both. More a Brendan Lade type (2nd ruck and 3rd tall when resting up forward) but with a bigger engine which is Patto's main asset. The problem is rucks are now much taller (205cm mark) so like Simmo he really can only offer a contest in the ruck rather than be a quality tap ruckman for our mids to feed off.

There are only two WHITE's in my TIGERS OF OLD book.

Les White played 2 games in 1910.

William White played 8 games in 1941.

No mention of a Jobe White.

Don't forget James White who played in 2000.  ;)

In Rhett's book, the White who played in 1910 was John J White.

I heard the interview and thought the name mentioned was Joe.  :-\
I suppose it could have been John. Maybe Matt's grandfather didn't play a senior game or it was his maternal grandfather. (?)

I just checked I couldn't find a Joe/Jobe White play in the VFL for any club. John White played in 1910 so he'd be too old to be Matty's granddad you'd reckon. Perhaps Matty's granddad played ressies or a junior/U19s for Richmond.

I spoke to young Whitey at a jumper presentation for VIC METRO U15's this morning and he says his grandfather never played footy except in RAAF in WA in early 1950's. Definitely not for Richmond at any level.
