Tiger tribute to Lindsay Thompson

Thu 17 July, 2008

Richmond Football Club is mourning the passing of former Victorian Premier, Lindsay Thompson, who was a passionate, life-long Tiger supporter.

Lindsay, who died last night (Wednesday, July 16) aged 84, was a vice-patron of the Club for many years and was always on hand to provide his wise counsel.

He also had a lengthy stint as Richmond’s No. 1 ticket-holder, and was one of the selectors for the Tigers’ Team of the Century, which was announced in August 1999.

Lindsay’s son, Murray, the current State Liberal MP for Sandringham, played 14 senior games for Richmond in the 1970s, and was a member of the Tigers’ reserve-grade premiership side in 1973.

The current Richmond team will wear black armbands in Saturday’s Round 16 match against Essendon at the MCG as a mark of respect for Lindsay Thompson.

The Club extends its deepest sympathy to Lindsay’s wife Joan, children Heather, Murray and David, and other members of his family.

Vale Lindsay Thompson.

A True Tiger from top to boot lace.

Still remember LT offering comfort and encouragement to a young lad the next day at Punt Road after the 82 GF.  :clapping
