Vote for Balmey, Swift and Fowler - Best GF moments
« on: September 25, 2008, 03:08:20 PM »
Vote for Balmey, Swift and Fowler in the AFL site's Best Grand Final Moments Poll.

Watch them here: http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/78731

Vote for them here: http://www.afl.com.au/News/FinalsNews/HistorysBestGrandFinalMoments/tabid/13273/Default.aspx

1. Barry Breen's point
St Kilda v Collingwood, 1966
The Saints' only premiership is delivered by a scrubby offline snap . . . romance, footy style.

2. Fred Swift's mark
Richmond v Geelong, 1967
Nails were already down to the cuticles when the Tiger defender took this match-saving goal-line grab.

3. Laurie Fowler collects John Nicholls
Richmond v Carlton, 1973
Laurie Fowler sums up Richmond's attitude to Carlton with the king of all shirt fronts on big John Nicholls.

4. Neil Balme knuckles Geoff Southby
Richmond v Carlton, 1973
And Neil Balme underlines the message using the side of Geoff Southby's face as a template.

5. Ross 'Twiggy' Dunne marks and goals
Collingwood v North Melbourne, 1977
With a pack mark and a torpedo punt, Twiggy Dunne ties up the 1977 grand final.

6. Wayne Harmes' boundary line tap
Carlton v Collingwood, 1979
Harmes' desperate chase and tap has Collingwood fans screaming for Blue murder.

7. The streaker
Carlton v Richmond, 1982
Helen D'Amico does her bit to promote night time grand finals, and a more adult time slot for TV.

8. Brereton crunched
Hawthorn v Geelong, 1989
The Best GF Of All Time started with Brereton prostrate on the ground thanks to Mark Yeates' bone-rattler.

9. Quarter-time brawl
Collingwood v Essendon, 1990
Gavin Brown went down, Morwood and Kickett compared mullets, and all hell broke loose.

10. The Batmobile
Hawthorn v West Coast, 1991 Nothing says footy more than Robert de Castella and Angry Anderson parading in the world's worst car.

I went to seven of these games.
I hate to be a traitor, but I thought Dermott's effort in the '89 GF was pretty special.
And probably one of the best GF's of all time IMO.

Harmes for mine. Nothing better than seeing still bitter Pies fans whinging about it and Harmes saying it was over the line to rub it in  ;D. Fowler next - revenge for Nicholls robbing Crowe of a premiership and it won us the flag :thumbsup.
