The Melbourne Cricket Ground has been voted one of the Seven Sporting Wonders of the World in a poll of British sports fans.

The MCG placed seventh in the survey of 3,500 fans by Barclays Spaces for Sports, with Monaco's infamous Formula One street circuit named the world's greatest sporting venue outside of the UK with 18 per cent of the vote.

Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium was third (14 per cent) behind the Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona (15 per cent) and ahead of the Bernabeu in Madrid (5 per cent).

Milan's San Siro and the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro each polled four per cent of the votes along with the MCG.

China was tipped to become the most powerful nation in elite sport with 43 per cent of the vote, with the UK (17 per cent) and USA (15 per cent) completing the top three.
