Wallace no longer a Tiger

Under siege Richmond senior coach Terry Wallace has announced he will step down from his position following the Tigers insipid 83-point thrashing at the hands of Carlton last Thursday night.
It is expected he will hand in his resignation to the Richmond Board this morning after discussing his future with his family and Richmond president Gary March over past week. It is believed assistant coach and four-time club best-and-fairest winner Wayne Campbell will take over a caretaker senior coach for the remainder of the season.
Wallace has had a tumultuous 5 years at Punt Road where his Tigers failed to make the finals in his time as coach and his record stands at 35 wins from 89 games - a winning percentage of just 39.32.
Senior officials at the Tigers who spoke to the Age last night believe the club will not begin searching for a permanent replacement for 2010 until at least the second half of season. It is believed Campbell, Hawthorn assistant coach Damien Hardwick, and Adelaide assistant coach Peter Jonas, are leading contenders to replace Wallace next year. Coaching legends Kevin Sheedy and Leigh Matthews are believed to be out of the picture as the club seeks a younger coach following the trend of recent years with Brett Ratten taking over at Carlton and Matthew Knights at Essendon.
Richmond will be holding a formal media conference at Punt Road Oval at midday today.
