Time to ask big questions of Richmond
Jon Anderson and Mark Robinson | April 21, 2009 10:04pm

JON Anderson and Mark Robinson return to the bar to ask the big questions of Richmond's head honchos.

Mark Robinson: I have two questions and one has to be asked by Terry Wallace and the other by Gary March. Terry has to ask the players if they want him as coach?

Jon Anderson: What if six have the guts to say "no" and Wallace remains? They are stuffed.

If they have the guts to say "no", then Terry has no alternative other than to walk.

And what about March, who has made differing sounds over the past 12 months?

March as president has to ask the captain and the leadership group whether they want Terry Wallace.

Some of that annoying term, leadership group, may be those who let their jumper down regularly. So what right do they have to decide Wallace's future?

They do not choose the replacement, if in fact one is needed, but March's responsibility to the club directs him to find out if there is an issue between the coach and the players.

Why is it all about March and not the board? Wouldn't sacking the coach be a board decision?

No doubt it would go to the board. What do you think will happen?

I think Wallace will serve out his term because Richmond is paranoid not to be seen continuing its history of senseless sackings.

If Terry gets an honest answer from his leadership group and the answer is "no", then he has to walk straight away. If he gets a "yes", Terry should say, "Right, you weak bastards, this is what we're doing and this is how we're doing it".

And they will probably start winning a few games because at least they'll know their immediate future. In fact, get on them against the Kangaroos.

Unfortunately for Terry, he is not the first coach or the last who will join the casualty list at Richmond. He tried his best but once again this intriguing, under-performing football club has got another one.

He can have a beer, or more likely wine, with the sacked coaches' club alongside Malcolm Blight and Kevin Sheedy.

Plus David Parkin, Robert Walls, Denis Pagan and Allan Jeans.

He's in fair company.
