Wallace on 3aw pre-game

Wallace on just now:

* How did you keep morale up?  What's happened internally is different externally. You have to have a handle on how you conduct yourself publicly. Had a Tuesday lunch with all the boys and spirits were as good as ever.

* Thought before the melbourne game we were under immense pressure as we had everything to lose. But we've had everything thrown at us now so nothing more they can throw at us. So hopefully we'll just go out and play.

* Cogs - First game is 3 years - how he handles the pace no one knows. He'll handle the contested footy fine which is how North play the game.

* Dimmintina said you've had a lot of class and depth out of the side this year - Cotchin, Johnson, Cousins, Raines (inj round 1), Polak, Pettifer and Browny has been carrying a groin. Wallace said it's hard to come out after loses especially to melbourne as it sounds like excues but that is true. Been awkward and difficult and tonight 13 of our 22 have less than 50 games. In his time as coach we've lacked the depth in that 23-28 age bracket.

* Dimmintina said we had 54 more effective possessions last week but didn't get it inside 50 enough. Is there a focus to go more direct? Plough said no doubt. We tightened up and we didn't take risks. Too concerned about the scoreboard. We've got to get our run and carry game going again. We'll need to as the North defence is tight and they mop up well.

* Cotch needed the gallop at Coburg but when you see the class he's got it. It was blowing a gale yet he hits his targets and the ball goes to where you want it.

* Have our 1st round picks suffered from expectation?  That comes back to that core missing the whole way through which has hurt the club. These kids are expected to come straight away and carry the slack. They look up to Richo, Browny and the older guys but what about these 22-28 years olds. They are simply not there. No matter who was coach it was always going to be the problem.
